The elections to 58 local bodies whose tenure ended in 2019 and 2021 were declared on Monday. The elections will be held for five city corporations, 19 municipalities, and 34 town municipalities. The by-elections will also be held for 19 posts. The results will be out on December 30. The elections to 1,264 gram panchayat seats which are vacated for various reasons would also be held and code of conduct will be implemented from December 13. Bengaluru : The Karnataka government announced fresh guidelines for international arrivals on Monday. As per the circular released by the Department of Health, travelers coming from at-risk 12 countries will undergo RT-PCR tests on arrival. Home isolation is being made mandatory for seven days and the travelers will also have to undergo retesting on the eighth day. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday stated that international passengers can step out from Airports only with a negative test report. The World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines will be followed in connection with the new strain. The Prime Minister and Union Health Minister have also recommended precautionary measures which will be followed. Karnataka has initiated precautionary measures much earlier, he said. According to guidelines, on international arrivals, if tested positive, the sample will be sent to genomic sequencing and they will be admitted to a separate isolation facility. Bengaluru : Karnataka on Sunday reported 315 fresh COVID-19 cases and two deaths, taking the caseload to 29,95,600 and the toll to 38,198. Discharges numbered 236, taking the total number of recoveries to 29,50,542, leaving 6,831 cases, a health department bulletin said. Bengaluru Urban remained the major contributor of coronavirus cases with 152 fresh infections. Both the deaths were from the city. Other districts too reported fresh cases, including Dharwad 49, Mysuru 26, Dakshina Kannada 19, Tumakuru 11 and 10 each in Shivamogga and Udupi. There were zero fatalities in 30 districts. While 12 districts reported zero infections and nil fatalities, 14 had cases in single digits. The positivity rate for the day was 0.42 per cent and the Case Fatality Rate was 0.63 per cent, the bulletin said. A total of 77,818 samples were tested in the state, taking the cumulative number of specimens examined so far to 5.31 crore. The number of vaccinations administered till date rose to 7.32 c

Bengaluru: Two South African nationals have tested Covid-19 positive at the Kempegowda International Airport here, creating panic among the health authorities over the new Omicron variant of the lethal virus. Bengaluru Rural Deputy Commissioner K. Srinivas on Saturday said further test reports would ascertain whether the South African nationals are infected with the Omicron variant. Covid cases at Karnataka medical college rise to 182

Dharawad: The Karnataka Health department is on high alert after the number of Covid positive students at the SDM Medical College in Dharwad city, increased to 182 on Friday. At least 66 students had tested positive on Thursday morning and 116 more were confirmed to have contracted the disease later in the day. College sources said the students were infected after attending a function at an auditorium in the premises on November 17. About 200 students and a few parents had participated in the programme. All of them have been directed to immediately get tested and to remain in isolation. All the Covid-19 infected students have been fully vaccinated and their symptoms are not serious. Until now, no positive Covid cases have been reported outside and in the surrounding areas of the campus. Bengaluru : Thirty-three students and one staffer of an international boarding school in Bengaluru have tested positive for Covid-19, the Karnataka health department said on Friday. Following the outbreak, the authorities have conducted Covid-19 tests on all 297 students and 200 staff members of the school. Two children from Nagpur complained of fever and other Covid-19 symptoms. When they were tested, they were found to be infected, according to the department. The district administration and school management are waiting for the test results of another 174 students and staff members. The infected children are studying in high school and higher secondary grades. The district authorities have deputed a taluq health officer and a medical officer on duty to monitor the medical condition of the children. Bengaluru: In the wake of the detection of 13 norovirus cases in Kerala, Karnataka has sounded an alert in the bordering districts of Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada. In a circular issued on Tuesday, the Karnataka Health Department released guidelines to be followed. It instructed the appointment of a physician as a nodal officer for every district to manage the situation. District Health and Family Welfare department officers have also been asked to pitch in. The infection is caused and spread through contaminated food and water. The person affected with the virus will develop symptoms of vomiting, loose motion, nausea, stomach ache, headache, body pain and fever, it said. The patients will have to be admitted to hospital. If neglected it will become fatal, it said. The health department officials have been asked to gather information on sources of drinking water and test them. Bengaluru : As many as 24 persons lost their lives due to tragedies related to the heavy rainfall in Karnataka since September. The rains have also caused a loss of agricultural crops in five lakh hectares in the state. These were some of the important points that emerged from the Sunday evening meeting chaired by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai at his home office, Krishna, to review the damage caused by incessant rains in various parts of the state. According to sources, the preliminary report on the damages stated that 658 houses were completely damaged and 8,495 houses were partially damaged. It has also resulted in the death of 191 livestock. Around 5 lakh hectares of agricultural crops were lost and the horticulture crop loss has been assessed at 30,114 hectares. The continuous rains have damaged 2,203 kilometers of roads in the state. Bengaluru : One person has been arrested here with 380 live Indian star tortoises, listed as endangered species, police said on Tuesday. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sanjeev Patil, a total of 401 Indian star tortoises were recovered, which were kept in two boxes by a person. Of these 21 were found dead and another 20 in serious condition. A team from Bannerghatta National Park arrived here and was taking measures to save those in serious condition. Acting on a tipoff, the Kalasipalya police conducted a raid and took Muthu Hamad Meera into custody. The accused was trying to sell the star tortoise on Monday late night at 11 p.m. A case has been lodged under the WildLife Protection Act 1972 under sections 9, 39, 40, 44, 48A, 51 and 55. The star tortoise, set apart by the intricate pattern on its shell and favoured as a pet in some countries, is protected under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972 and listed under appendix of 1 of the Convention on International Trade

Due to the incessant rainwater level in Suvarnavathi water reservoir in Chamarajanagar district reached the maximum level after 11 years. 900 cusecs water is being released from two crest gates of the reservoir. Meanwhile, due to the heavy rainfall since last week in more than 14 districts of the state, four people have died and more than 15 houses collapsed in the state to date.
