SIR: 1.07 cr electors deleted from Karnataka draft voter roll

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Election Commission on Monday, August 24, published the first draft electoral roll following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in the state. Chief Electoral Officer V Anbukumar said more than 1.07 crore names have been moved to the ASDDO (Absent, Shifted, Dead, Duplicate and Other) category following the exercise.

4.46 crore voters digitised

According to the draft roll, Karnataka now has 4,46,80,151 registered voters, against 5,54,32,314 voters before the SIR exercise. Of the total voters retained in the draft roll, details of 4,46,35,975 voters have been digitised, accounting for 80.52 per cent of the total.

The draft roll includes 2,22,01,727 male voters, 2,24,75,553 female voters and 2,871 third-gender voters.

7,09,870 duplicate voters identified

The Election Commission said a total of 1,07,96,339 voters who did not submit enumeration forms have been placed in the ASDDO category. Of these, 65,45,679 voters were found to have permanently shifted from their registered addresses, while 16,39,864 were reported dead.

Another 15,17,042 voters were classified as absent. The exercise also identified 7,09,870 duplicate voters who were registered at more than one location, while 3,83,884 voters were placed under other categories.

Claims and objections open till Sep 23

Anbukumar said voters who have been left out of the draft roll can file claims and objections between August 24 and September 23. Applications can be submitted physically through Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), or online through the Election Commission’s voter portal and ECINET mobile application.

The CEO’s office has also made the list of voters concerned available on the CEO Karnataka website, allowing citizens to verify the details and submit objections to the appropriate ERO.

The Election Commission said political parties will be provided the list of claims and objections on a weekly basis during the revision process.

Final electoral to be released on October 27

The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on October 27 after scrutiny and disposal of claims and objections.

The Election Commission has also clarified that no elector’s name can be deleted from the draft roll without notice and an opportunity to be heard. Any deletion must follow due process and a speaking order by the Electoral Registration Officer or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer.

Infosys lays off hundreds after failing internal assessments in Mysuru

Hundreds of campus recruits who joined Infosys in October 2024 are being forced to resign after failing three consecutive evaluation tests at the IT giant’s Mysuru campus.  Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) president Harpreet Singh Saluja was quoted by the Deccan Herald (DH) saying that the number of employees being laid off is around 700, although Infosys admits the figure to be around 300.  According to the Economic Times , 400 employees were called in batches and asked to resign on February 7. Greater Bengaluru Committee proposes seven municipal corporations

Bengaluru: The select committee on Greater Bengaluru—tasked with restructuring the city’s municipal agency—submitted its report to Karnataka Assembly Speaker U T Khader on Monday. Headed by Shivajinagar MLA Rizwan Arshad, the committee held several meetings with various stakeholders, including the city’s MLAs, MPs and senior administrative officials.
