Honeytrap allegation sparks political storm in Tumakuru district

Tumakuru: Allegations of honeytrap politics and surveillance have triggered fresh political controversy in Tumakuru district, with JDS leader CS Pura Nagaraju levelling serious accusations against Gubbi Congress MLA SR Srinivas and his son Dushyant.
The explosive claims, along with the release of an alleged audio clip, have intensified political tensions in the district and sparked widespread debate in local political circles.
Addressing an emergency press conference at the JDS office in Tumakuru city on Thursday, May 21, Nagaraju alleged that a systematic conspiracy was being hatched to politically trap and defame him ahead of the next elections. He claimed that his personal movements were being monitored and that attempts were being made to collect information about his private life through people close to him.
According to Nagaraju, his driver Santosh and close aide Chandu were allegedly contacted and lured with money to gather details about his activities. He further alleged that his driver was called to a flat in Bengaluru reportedly linked to MLA SR Srinivas, where questions were asked regarding his personal relationships and business dealings.
“They are trying to destroy my image and finish me politically. Their intention is to create problems in my business, cause financial losses, and push me onto the streets,” Nagaraju alleged during the press conference. He claimed that efforts were underway to misuse personal information for political gain and accused his rivals of resorting to unethical tactics.
The JDS leader also released an alleged audio clip said to involve MLA Srinivas’ son Dushyant. While the authenticity of the audio has not been independently verified, Nagaraju claimed it was proof of the alleged conspiracy against him. He further stated that if anything were to happen to him, Congress MLA SR Srinivas should be held directly responsible.
The allegations have now created a fresh political flashpoint in Tumakuru district, especially in Gubbi constituency where rivalry between Congress and JDS leaders has remained intense in recent years.
Meanwhile, senior JDS leader Honnagirigowda also joined the attack against Congress leaders, condemning what he termed as “honeytrap politics” in the state. He said targeting political opponents through personal attacks and alleged conspiracies was a dangerous trend for democracy.
“Just because someone wins an election does not mean they should harass opponents. Honeytrap politics is becoming a dangerous development in Karnataka,” he said. Honnagirigowda also referred to previous high-profile controversies involving political figures in the state, including cases linked to Prajwal Revanna and Ramesh Jarkiholi, and demanded an end to what he described as low-level political practices.
The controversy has quickly become one of the most talked-about political issues in Tumakuru district, with supporters from both Congress and JDS actively debating the matter on social media and local political platforms.
So far, Congress MLA S.R. Srinivas has not officially responded to the allegations made by Nagaraju. Political observers believe his response could significantly influence the direction of the controversy in the coming days.
With accusations of surveillance, political trapping, and honeytrap conspiracies now entering the public domain, the issue is expected to further escalate political tensions in the district ahead of future electoral battles.
