BJP prez Nitin Nabin opts for simple Bengaluru visit amid fuel concerns

BJP National President Nitin Nabin

Bengaluru: BJP National President Nitin Nabin is arriving in Bengaluru for his first visit to Karnataka after assuming office, but the party leadership has decided to keep the programme deliberately low-key and simple.

The BJP high command has reportedly put the brakes on plans for a grand welcome, roadshows, and large-scale celebrations that party workers and leaders were initially preparing.

The decision comes at a time when rising fuel prices across the country have become a major public concern, with petrol and diesel prices witnessing another hike for the third consecutive day.

According to party sources, the leadership has taken the decision in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s repeated appeal for fuel conservation and responsible usage of petroleum products.

As part of this symbolic move, Nitin Nabin will travel from the airport using only four electric vehicles instead of a massive convoy.

BJP’s attempt at simplicity messaging

Party insiders said the BJP wants to send a message of simplicity and environmental responsibility rather than extravagance during the visit. Leaders have also been instructed to avoid unnecessary displays of power, lengthy vehicle rallies, and lavish floral receptions.

As per the schedule, Nitin Nabin will participate in a breakfast meeting at the residence of senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa on Saturday morning. Following this, he is expected to offer prayers at the Kadu Malleshwara Temple before proceeding to the BJP state office.

Unlike previous high-profile visits by national leaders, the programme will reportedly not include traditional garlanding ceremonies, large public processions, or celebratory roadshows. The state unit has been asked to ensure a disciplined and minimalistic reception.

Political observers believe the BJP leadership is attempting to avoid criticism over extravagance at a time when the opposition has been targeting the Centre over fuel price hikes and rising cost of living. The restrained visit is also being seen as an effort to project a people-friendly and grounded political image.

Strategy in Karnataka

Nitin Nabin’s visit assumes significance amid ongoing discussions over organisational changes and political strategies in Karnataka ahead of the upcoming electoral battles.

Senior state leaders are expected to hold internal meetings with him regarding party strengthening, leadership coordination, and booth-level preparations across the state.
