Bagalkote: Two persons have been arrested in connection with communal clashes during a Shivaji Jayanti procession in Bagalkote, police said on Sunday, February 22.

An FIR was registered following the incident in the Qila Oni area, where stones were allegedly thrown during the procession.

“Based on video footage and photographic evidence, we have arrested two persons in connection with the stone-pelting,” a police officer said.

Police said the duo had been booked on charges of attempting to incite violence, obstructing police personnel from discharging their duties and damaging private property.

“The accused have been remanded to judicial custody,” the officer added.

The city witnessed communal clashes when stones and slippers were reportedly hurled at a Shivaji Jayanti procession near a mosque at Qila Oni locality on Thursday.

Meanwhile, police said restrictions have been imposed on Pramod Muthalik, chief of Sri Ram Sena, and Hindu activist Puneeth Kerehalli as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order and prevent any unrest.

Muthalik, who reached Bagalkote, condemned the restrictions imposed on him, saying that those uniting the country are being targeted, while those indulging in anti-national activities and creating rifts in society are being protected.

He said his outfit had organised an event on Monday in which he would participate in at any cost.

“I will participate in the event. Let the police arrest me,” he said.

Bengaluru: Bus conductor fails to return Rs 1; court orders BMTC to pay Rs 3K as compensation

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) was recently ordered to pay a man Rs 2,000 in compensation after he was denied Rs 1 change for a bus ride by the Bengaluru Urban District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission. According to several media reports, in 2019, a man named Ramesh Naik went on a BMTC bus from Shantinagar to Majestic bus depot, during which the conductor issued a ticket for Rs 29. The complainant paid Rs 30 and was not given the change. Keeping up the fight, Naik then complained about the conductor to BMTC’s high authorities. Bengaluru : The arrest of Kannada film actor Ranya Rao, daughter of a senior IPS officer in Karnataka , has exposed a major gold smuggling operation in India. Investigations by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) revealed that the 31-year-old actress used an unusual method to evade security checks — she attached 14 gold bars to her thighs using adhesive, wrapped them with tape, and concealed them under a crepe bandage. Officials described her arrest as one of the biggest breakthroughs in recent gold smuggling cases. So far, authorities have seized 17.29 kg of gold and cash in the case.
