Bengaluru: Son pays Rs 1 cr to contract killers to get father killed

Bengaluru: Karnataka Police said on Tuesday that it has cracked the murder case of a 71-year-old man in Bengaluru and arrested his son and two contract killers in connection to the crime. Investigations have revealed that the victim’s son, Manikantha (30), had hired the contract killers by paying them a sum of Rs 1 crore. The two other accused were identified as T. Adarsha (26) and Shivakumar (24). The victim, Narayanaswamy, was hacked to death on February 13 in the parking lot of his apartment. The police said that they also suspect the role of other persons in the case and will arrest them soon. Dhaka: Bangladesh was “constrained” to abstain from the UNGA vote on Ukraine as it believes that the resolution lacked “intensive” diplomatic engagement and “dialogue” between the parties involved in the conflict, a government official said on Sunday. “Bangladesh continues to remain concerned over the loss of civilian lives, the deteriorating humanitarian situation in conflict zone, and consequential socio-economic fallout around the globe and calls for cessation of hostilities,” the Dhaka Tribune quoted Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Seheli Sabrin as saying. Bangladesh pursues a peace-centric foreign policy based on the principles of respect for all states, peaceful settlement of international disputes, and in line with principles of the United Nations charter, Sabrin said. Bengaluru : Names of 9,159 Muslim voters in the Shivajinagar constituency in Bengaluru have been removed from the voters’ list. This removal is done based on a complaint filed by a private agency named Chilume which has links to the BJP. The complaint was filed on November 16, 2022, and the action was taken by the Election commission in January 2023. It is reported that the private agency, Chilume prepared a list of 26,000 voters after collecting the data illegally since October 2022 for the Shivajinagar constituency. The complaint filed to the Election Commission alleged that 26,000 fake voters are identified in the Shivajinagar constituency who have either shifted from that place or are dead. The Election Commission published the final electoral roll for the Shivajinagar constituency on January 15, 2023. After seeking permission from the central government for the relaxation of Coastal Regulation Zone rules, it is proposed to take up beach tourism in coastal areas and pilgrim tourism, Bommai said. Bengaluru: A 6-year-old girl allegedly died after falling into the pit at an under-construction site within K.R. Market police station limits in Bengaluru on Saturday. The deceased child has been identified as Maheshwari. Her parents worked as labourers at the construction site in Sultanpet. They lived on the premises of the under-construction building. According to police, the child fell into the pit made for lift installation late Friday night. The pit was filled with water. Unaware of this, the parents of the kid searched all over the place. They got to know about the child only when the dead body came up in the morning. The building belonged to one Vikram. It has been alleged that no precautionary measure was taken at the construction site. Taking up the investigation in the case, K.R. Market police have inspected the spot. Karnataka HC quashes 2018 ED notice to block Amnesty India’s bank account

The Karnataka High Court has dismissed a notice issued by the Enforcement Directorate in 2018 under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) and the Information Technology Act for the blocking of Amnesty International India Pvt Ltd’s bank account. The Karnataka High Court’s single-judge bench dismissed the October 26, 2018 notice for blocking Amnesty India’s account because it was only valid for 60 days. Amnesty International India and the Indians for Amnesty International Trust have petitioned the High Court in response to the ED letter. The case was disposed of on Friday. According to a report by the Indian Express , the senior counsel for the NGO said that the notice issued by the ED under section 37 of the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999, read with section 132 of the Income Tax Act, 1961, is only valid for 60 days. The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) was recently ordered to pay a man Rs 2,000 in compensation after he was denied Rs 1 change for a bus ride by the Bengaluru Urban District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission. According to several media reports, in 2019, a man named Ramesh Naik went on a BMTC bus from Shantinagar to Majestic bus depot, during which the conductor issued a ticket for Rs 29. The complainant paid Rs 30 and was not given the change. Keeping up the fight, Naik then complained about the conductor to BMTC’s high authorities. To his surprise, the authorities made fun of him and drove him away. Unhappy with this, he filed a complaint with the local consumer court, asking Rs 15,000 in compensation. Madhu Swamy said on Tuesday that if the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) in Bengaluru refuses to provide 25 percent reservation for Kannadiga students, the BJP government in the state would initiate action against it. “If the university fails to provide reservation lawfully, we will not hesitate to take action,” he reiterated on the floor of the Assembly on Tuesday.
