K’taka “Anti-conversion Bill” aimed at getting rid of conversion, says CM

Image
Belagavi:  The contentious “anti-conversion bill” was passed by the Karnataka Legislative Assembly on Thursday, amid din, with Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai terming it as both ‘constitutional and legal’, and aimed at getting rid of the menace of religious conversion. Opposing the “Karnataka Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Bill, 2021”, tooth and nail, the Congress dubbed it “anti-people”, “inhuman”, “anti-constitutional”, “anti-poor” and “draconian”, and urged it should not be passed for any reason and that it be withdrawn by the government. JD(S) too expressed its opposition to the bill, which was introduced in the Assembly on Tuesday. The bill provides for protection of right to freedom of religion and prohibition of unlawful conversion from one religion to another by misrepresentation, force, undue influence, coercion, allurement or by any fraudulent means. It proposes an imprisonment from three to five years with a fine of Rs 25,000, while for violation of provisio

Belagavi : Karnataka State Congress president D.K. People need not worry: K’taka CM Bommai on anti-conversion Bill

Image
Hubballi : People need not worry about the proposed Anti-Conversion Bill, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said while speaking to mediapersons in Hubballi on Sunday. Hinduism, Christianity, Islam and Sikhism are constitutionally recognised religions. There would be no hindrance for worship and religious practices of people belonging to any religion, the Chief Minister assured. “The Bill is only to prevent religious conversions by inducements,” he clarified. The issue of religious conversions has been debated for a long time in the post-Independence era. Many states have enacted anti-conversion laws. Majority of people want similar laws to be brought in the state after studying the laws enacted in other states. “In this background the Law department is studying the laws enacted in other states. Then the draft would be placed before the state cabinet. If the Law department submits the draft then it would come up for discussion in the Belagavi session of state legislature,” Bommai said.

CSR concept helpful for society’s development says Bommai

Image
Bengaluru : The concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund is very helpful in development of the society, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Friday. “Giving is in our culture. But how? where? and what? becomes important. There is a couplet by saint poet Sarvajna which says ‘ What we give is ours and what we hide is others’,” he said in his inaugural address at the Bengaluru CSR Leadership Summit. As a person grows he should discharge his responsibilities in right earnest and give back what he has received from the society, Bommai said. Referring to comments of some economists about welfare schemes like free mid-day meal, distribution of bicycles as “wasteful expenditure”, he expressed his disapproval of such views. “Children are the future of the country. A sick child is like a speed breaker for the development of the country,” he said. “A healthy child is like an elevator for development. The human development programs would be my passion even if I a
