Bengaluru : Police across Karnataka have rescued nearly 800 children employed as labourers during a statewide operation covering 598 police station limits on Saturday, September 12, with Bengaluru accounting for the highest number of rescues. Acting on specific information about children being employed in violation of child labour laws, police teams conducted inspections at 16,951 locations across the state. A total of 800 children were rescued, including 503 from Bengaluru alone. The operation covered a wide range of establishments and workplaces suspected of employing children. Vijayapura recorded the second-highest number of rescues, with 72 children found working at various locations, followed by Tumakuru with 33, Koppal with 27 and Kalaburagi with 22. Other districts where children were rescued included Chikkaballapur with 16, Ballari with 15, Belagavi with 14, Mysuru and Chitradurga with 13 each, and Hubballi-Dharwad with 10. Bengaluru: The Enforcement Directorate’s searches linked to Karnataka Public Works Department Minister Satish Jarkiholi have triggered a fresh political controversy after the agency claimed that documents and digital evidence relating to alleged PWD irregularities and contractor bribe collection were recovered. The ED said searches were conducted at 21 locations linked to Jarkiholi, his family members and associates in Bengaluru, Belagavi, Gokak and Kolkata as part of an investigation into suspected financial transactions, foreign investments and cross-border dealings. Bengaluru: A major crackdown on child labour in Bengaluru West and Nelamangala has led to the rescue of more than 71 children allegedly employed in shops, garages and other establishments. In Nelamangala rural police limits, officials acted on information that minors were being illegally engaged as labourers. A special police team headed by DySP Umarani and CPI Narendra Babu conducted raids at the suspected premises. The operation reportedly uncovered instances of young children being made to perform strenuous work. Police registered five separate cases at the Nelamangala Rural police station following the raids. The children rescued from the establishments were handed over to a children’s care and counselling centre to ensure their safety.
