New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear on August 13 a plea of the Tamil Nadu government seeking directions to the Karnataka government for immediate release of the share of Cauvery water to it. A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana took note of submissions made by the counsel representing the state government that in a rain-deficient year Tamil Nadu was not getting its due share of Cauvery water. “We will list it for hearing on Thursday,” the CJI said. New Delhi: Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar met AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge late on Sunday night August 9, as the Congress leadership continued deliberations over the allocation of portfolios to newly inducted ministers. The Cabinet expansion was completed nearly a week ago, but the portfolios of several new ministers are yet to be finalised. Bengaluru : Food safety officials raided the kitchens of five prominent hotels at UB City in Bengaluru and uncovered serious hygiene and food safety violations, including rotten meat, expired food products and improperly stored perishable items. A team of around 15 officials conducted inspections at Sky Hotel, Royal Chain, Madras Kitchen, Tescon Hotel and Senchezz Hotel on Monday, August 10. The inspections were aimed at checking food quality, hygiene standards, storage practices and compliance with food safety regulations. At Sky Hotel, officials reportedly seized 45 kg of rotten chicken and beef, 15 litres of used cooking oil and 6 kg of vegetable cutlets. Following the discovery of rotten meat and expired food items, officials sealed the hotel’s kitchen. Chamarajanagar: Two men were killed after an unidentified vehicle allegedly rammed their motorcycle near Konanakeri village in Hanur taluk on Sunday, August 9. The incident, suspected to be a hit-and-run, occurred while the victims were travelling towards Kollegala from Male Mahadeshwara Hills. The deceased have been identified as Yuvaraj, 50, a resident of Martalli village in Hanur taluk, and Shashank, 25, who was from Maddur taluk in Mandya district. According to the police, the two men were riding towards Kollegala when the unidentified vehicle allegedly approached at high speed and crashed into their motorcycle near Konanakeri village. Bengaluru: A large-scale police operation to identify foreign nationals staying illegally in Bengaluru has resulted in the detection of 15 Bangladeshi nationals in the Electronic City police division, officials said on Saturday, August 9. The drive, named ‘Operation Mukta’, began early in the morning and was carried out simultaneously at several locations across the city. More than 500 police personnel were deployed as part of the exercise, which focused on verifying the identity and immigration documents of suspected foreign nationals. In the Electronic City division alone, 23 special teams comprising 295 police officers and personnel inspected 29 locations. Construction sites, temporary shelters and other locations suspected to be used for unauthorised accommodation were searched.
