Bengaluru : Karnataka Police have achieved the highest recovery rate of stolen mobile phones in the country among the five states with the largest number of mobile theft cases, highlighting the effectiveness of technology-based policing through the Centre’s CEIR portal. Mobile phone theft has become one of the most common crimes across India, with thousands of complaints lodged every day. Although many victims assume their phones are lost permanently, Karnataka has demonstrated that a large number of stolen devices can be successfully traced and returned to their owners. Official statistics show that 5,72,972 mobile theft cases have been reported in Karnataka. Using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR), police have recovered 1,55,940 handsets, translating into a recovery rate of 47.48 per cent, the highest among the leading states. Mysuru: Mysuru is fully prepared for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on Saturday, August 1, during which he will inaugurate the newly built Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre, popularly known as the Viveka Memorial, at the Ramakrishna Ashrama. The memorial has been established to commemorate Swami Vivekananda’s historic stay in Mysuru in 1892 and to inspire youth through his teachings and ideals. Bengaluru: A Bengaluru woman has alleged that a delivery executive repeatedly tried to gain entry into her house despite being refused several times, leaving her frightened and prompting her to raise the issue on social media while urging the delivery platform to strengthen customer safety measures. Her subsequent post shared that the quick-commerce company has terminated the services of the executive. In a video posted on Instagram, the woman narrated the sequence of events, claiming the delivery executive arrived at her residence with an order before requesting a bottle of drinking water. Bengaluru : The Karnataka police have filed an FIR in connection with the alleged assault on a student who had participated in the recent protests against the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) paper leaks. The 19-year-old student from Punjab was allegedly assaulted by four unidentified men near BEL Circle in Jalahalli late on Thursday night, police said on Friday, July 31. The All India Students’ Association (AISA) has alleged the involvement of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in the incident. The victim has been identified as Aman Deep Singh, who sustained serious injuries to his leg in the attack and is currently undergoing treatment. Shivamogga: The Shivamogga District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed HDB Financial Services to return a JCB machine to a borrower after holding that the finance company had illegally repossessed the vehicle without issuing prior notice, in violation of RBI guidelines and judicial directions. According to the commission, complainant Manjappa K of Bennur village in Sorab taluk had availed a loan of Rs 31.67 lakh from HDB Financial Services to purchase the JCB. He was required to pay a monthly instalment of Rs 71,500 and had been making regular repayments. However, due to heavy rains and repair work on the machine, he defaulted on three instalments. The finance company allegedly repossessed the JCB on August 6, 2025, without serving any prior notice or following due legal procedure. Bengaluru : Jalahalli police have arrested two men for allegedly scattering nails on a busy road to deliberately puncture two-wheelers and cars, forcing stranded motorists to use their puncture repair shop. According to the police, the accused operated a puncture repair shop along the MES Ring Road in Jalahalli. During interrogation, they allegedly admitted to throwing large quantities of nails across the roadway to increase business at their shop. After vehicles developed flat tyres, the duo would appear at the spot and offer puncture repair services to unsuspecting motorists. The racket came to light after Bengaluru Traffic Police received repeated complaints from commuters about an unusually high number of tyre punctures along the stretch.
