Bengaluru : The Karnataka police have filed an FIR in connection with the alleged assault on a student who had participated in the recent protests against the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) paper leaks. The 19-year-old student from Punjab was allegedly assaulted by four unidentified men near BEL Circle in Jalahalli late on Thursday night, police said on Friday, July 31. The All India Students’ Association (AISA) has alleged the involvement of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in the incident. The victim has been identified as Aman Deep Singh, who sustained serious injuries to his leg in the attack and is currently undergoing treatment. Shivamogga: The Shivamogga District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed HDB Financial Services to return a JCB machine to a borrower after holding that the finance company had illegally repossessed the vehicle without issuing prior notice, in violation of RBI guidelines and judicial directions. According to the commission, complainant Manjappa K of Bennur village in Sorab taluk had availed a loan of Rs 31.67 lakh from HDB Financial Services to purchase the JCB. He was required to pay a monthly instalment of Rs 71,500 and had been making regular repayments. However, due to heavy rains and repair work on the machine, he defaulted on three instalments. The finance company allegedly repossessed the JCB on August 6, 2025, without serving any prior notice or following due legal procedure. Ballari: A man allegedly murdered his wife and their seven-month-old daughter by attacking them with a hammer at their residence in the Andral area of Ballari city on the night of Thursday, July 31, before fleeing the scene, police said. The victims have been identified as Rajeshwari and her infant daughter, Ashwini. The accused, Honnuru Swamy, is absconding, and police have launched a search operation to trace him. Bengaluru : Jalahalli police have arrested two men for allegedly scattering nails on a busy road to deliberately puncture two-wheelers and cars, forcing stranded motorists to use their puncture repair shop. According to the police, the accused operated a puncture repair shop along the MES Ring Road in Jalahalli. During interrogation, they allegedly admitted to throwing large quantities of nails across the roadway to increase business at their shop. After vehicles developed flat tyres, the duo would appear at the spot and offer puncture repair services to unsuspecting motorists. The racket came to light after Bengaluru Traffic Police received repeated complaints from commuters about an unusually high number of tyre punctures along the stretch. Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh has received 25 per cent less rainfall than normal so far this monsoon, raising concerns about soil moisture and sowing conditions in parts of the state’s rain-fed agricultural belt. However, the weather department forecast a revival of monsoon activity in early August. According to the recent data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the state recorded 258.6 mm of cumulative rainfall between June 1 and July 29 against the normal 342.8 mm, leaving an overall seasonal deficit of 25 per cent. The rainfall deficiency has been far more pronounced in East Uttar Pradesh , which received 252.8 mm rainfall against the normal 370.4 mm, a deficit of 32 per cent. Several districts have reported rainfall shortages of more than 50 per cent, including Bhadohi, Deoria, Jaunpur, Kanpur Dehat, Kaushambi, Kushinagar, Rae Bareli, Sant Kabir Nagar and Sitapur, indicating a prolonged dry spell over large parts of the region. Bengaluru: A 28-year-old man allegedly died by suicide after coming under a moving train in Bengaluru, with police recovering his severed head nearly a day after his headless body was found. The deceased has been identified as Vishwanath, a native of Andhra Pradesh. Railway police had initially recovered only the headless body on Tuesday, July 28, and registered a case of unnatural death (UDR). The circumstances surrounding the incident became clear only after the missing head was traced on Wednesday, July 29. According to police, the impact of the train separated the victim’s head from the body. Stray dogs are suspected to have dragged the severed head nearly 400 metres from the accident site. Bengaluru : The City Crime Branch (CCB) Women’s Wing raided a rave party being held at a private villa in citys upscale IPS Layout on Tuesday night and arrested three organisers for allegedly conducting the event in violation of the law. Police also seized banned hookah products, e-cigarettes and liquor during the operation, while several women present at the party were rescued.
