Bagalkot : A powerful explosion destroyed a Mahindra XUV300 parked outside a wine shop in Hipparagi village of Jamkhandi taluk, Bagalkot district, on the night of Saturday, July 25, sending shockwaves through the locality and prompting a detailed police investigation into the cause of the incident. The SUV, registered in the name of M.G. Thoragal, had reportedly been parked outside the bar by wine shop manager Hanumanth Sangond at around 4.30 pm. Hours later, just as employees were preparing to close the establishment, a loud explosion shattered the vehicle. The blast completely wrecked the SUV, with vehicle parts flying in different directions. The impact damaged the outer wall of the wine shop and caused beer and soft drink bottles stored inside to fall and break. Bengaluru : The Union Cabinet has approved a major railway infrastructure project worth Rs 1,264 crore to construct the third and fourth railway lines between Ballari in Karnataka and Guntakal in Andhra Pradesh. The decision was taken at the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw , while briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting, said the 46-km multi-tracking project will strengthen rail connectivity between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and is expected to be completed within three years. The project forms part of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan aimed at improving logistics and transport infrastructure across the country. The railway expansion will pass through three districts—Ballari in Karnataka and Anantapur and Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh. Bengaluru: The early arrival of plaster of Paris (POP) Ganesh idols in Bengaluru markets has sparked fresh concerns over the enforcement of restrictions on environmentally harmful idols, even after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for the use of eco-friendly alternatives during this year’s Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Ganesh Chaturthi is scheduled to be celebrated on September 14, but traders have already started displaying POP idols across parts of the city. The development comes despite repeated campaigns highlighting the environmental hazards caused by POP idols during immersion. In his June 28 “Mann Ki Baat” programme, Modi appealed to citizens to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi using clay idols and avoid POP idols to protect lakes, rivers and the environment.
