Bengaluru businessman gets lifer for murder in Attapur

Hyderabad: A local court in Hyderabad on Friday, July 17, sentenced a Bengaluru-based businessman to life in prison for his involvement in a murder in Attapur in 2017. The convict, Nisar Ahmed, 40, owns a leather business. Nisar and the victim, Neesar Ahmed, had rented a flat at Sajid Residency in Santosh Nagar Colony in April 2017. A few days later, the apartment watchman noticed a foul smell from the locked flat. When the flat was unlocked, Nisar’s decomposed body was found in the bathroom with head injuries and a rope tied around his neck. Police investigation points at businessman Police investigation revealed that Nisar had allegedly murdered his business partner over a dispute and fled after locking the flat. He was later arrested. Bengaluru: An FIR was registered on Friday, July 17, after a hoax bomb threat was received aboard a Bengaluru-Ahmedabad IndiGo flight shortly before its scheduled departure from the Kempegowda International Airport here, police said. The incident occurred on IndiGo flight 6E-6423, which was scheduled to depart from Bengaluru at 8 pm on July 16, they said. According to the police, a handwritten note stating, “Don’t go. Bomb Hai! Please,” was found by a crew member inside the forward lavatory at around 7.35 pm. Al-Hind terror conspiracy case: Key accused gets 7-year term

Bengaluru : A Special Court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Bengaluru has sentenced Mohammed Hanif Khan, a key accused in the Al-Hind terror conspiracy case, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 48,000. Hanif is the first accused to be convicted in the case, while trials against the remaining accused are continuing. The NIA has filed charge sheets against 20 accused in connection with the conspiracy, all of whom are currently in judicial custody. According to investigators, the accused were part of a network inspired by the banned terrorist organisation ISIS (Daesh) and allegedly planned to establish its operational base in South India. Second-year MBBS student dies by suicide in Mangaluru

Mangaluru : A 21-year-old MBBS student allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the fifth floor of a residential apartment in Surathkal on Tuesday, July 14. The deceased has been identified as Mahalakshmi, a second-year MBBS student of Srinivas Medical College at Mukka and a native of Hubballi. According to police, Mahalakshmi was residing in a flat in Surathkal while pursuing her medical studies. Though she lived in an apartment on the second floor, she reportedly went to the fifth floor of the same building before jumping . She sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot. Preliminary investigation suggests that the student had allegedly attempted suicide on an earlier occasion as well.
