Dharwad: A 45-year-old anaesthesiologist was found murdered with stab injuries inside his apartment in Dharwad, while his 10-year-old son was seriously injured in the same incident. Bengaluru : A Special Court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Bengaluru has sentenced Mohammed Hanif Khan, a key accused in the Al-Hind terror conspiracy case, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 48,000. Hanif is the first accused to be convicted in the case, while trials against the remaining accused are continuing. The NIA has filed charge sheets against 20 accused in connection with the conspiracy, all of whom are currently in judicial custody. According to investigators, the accused were part of a network inspired by the banned terrorist organisation ISIS (Daesh) and allegedly planned to establish its operational base in South India. Mangaluru : A 21-year-old MBBS student allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the fifth floor of a residential apartment in Surathkal on Tuesday, July 14. The deceased has been identified as Mahalakshmi, a second-year MBBS student of Srinivas Medical College at Mukka and a native of Hubballi. According to police, Mahalakshmi was residing in a flat in Surathkal while pursuing her medical studies. Though she lived in an apartment on the second floor, she reportedly went to the fifth floor of the same building before jumping . She sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot. Kalaburagi : Three convicted prisoners escaped from the Kalaburagi Central Jail in the early hours of Monday, July 13, triggering a major security alert and raising serious questions over prison security. Bengaluru : The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has suspended a driver-cum-conductor after Transport Minister Byrathi Suresh’s surprise inspection exposed shortcomings in passenger service during a late-night bus journey. The suspended employee has been identified as Ramakrishna T.G. The action follows the minister’s unannounced “reality check” on July 11, when he boarded a BMTC bus travelling from Hebbal to Bhoopasandra while wearing a face mask to avoid being recognised. During the journey, the minister reportedly offered cash for a ticket, following which the conductor asked him to provide ₹6 in change. When the minister said he did not have the exact amount, the conductor allegedly asked him to get down from the bus if he could not provide the change.
