Karnataka Assembly passes resolution asking Centre to repeal VB-G RAM G

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Assembly on Wednesday, February 4, passed a resolution urging the Centre to immediately repeal VB-G RAM G and reinstate MGNREGA amid a walkout by the opposition BJP and its ally JD(S). The resolution was moved by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday, which was accepted by the House today. Opposition Leader R Ashoka said the party opposes the resolution moved by the ruling Congress and supports the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajivika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G). Amazon India partners with IIT-Roorkee to develop agri waste packaging

Bengaluru: Amazon India on Wednesday announced a collaboration with IIT-Roorkee to develop innovative packaging materials from agricultural waste. The project aims to create non-wood paper technology that diverts agricultural waste from burning while reducing reliance on virgin wood pulp, the company said. In a statement, Amazon said the lightweight yet strong packaging materials will provide recyclable and home-compostable alternatives to traditional wood pulp paper or plastic bags. The research will focus on converting crop residues such as wheat straw and bagasse into high-quality pulp for paper mailers, with performance comparable to conventional paper packaging, it added. “This initiative helps reduce stubble burning in India by turning agricultural waste into valuable packaging material. It also lowers dependence on imported virgin wood pulp and could provide additional income for farmers by creating a market for agricultural residues,” Amazon India said. The collaboratio...

COMEDK entrance exam for engineering colleges in Karnataka on May 9

Hyderabad: Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) entrance exam for admission into 150 unaided engineering colleges in Karnataka will be held on May 9. The applications for the exam will be available from February 3 to March 16. Interested candidates can apply on the COMEDK website , a press release by COMEDK said, adding that the application process and exam will be conducted online. London to Bengaluru Air India flight grounded over fuel switch issue

Nearly seven months after the deadly Air India crash in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad, which claimed 260 lives, a Boeing 787-8 aircraft flying from London to Bengaluru was grounded after the fuel tank reportedly cut off, reviving memories of the tragedy. The incident occurred on Monday, February 2, after Air India Flight AI132 flying from London Heathrow Airport reported a fuel defect, which was later grounded. Karnataka HM Directs Police to Probe Circumstances Behind Realtor’s ‘suicide’

Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Saturday, January 31, said the police have been directed to conduct an inquiry into the circumstances that led to the “suicide” of Confident Group chairperson CJ Roy, who allegedly shot himself dead at his office here when I-T officials were present in connection with earlier searches. Speaking to reporters, Parameshwara said the Income Tax Department had earlier conducted searches at Roy’s company and were in the process of completing statutory procedures. “There was a raid in his company in December (last). There is a rule that within 60 days a charge sheet has to be filed in the court. They had to finalise before February 4. Hence, he was summoned,” he said. Rs 2.77 cr worth hydroponic ganja seized at Bengaluru airport

Bengaluru: A passenger arriving from Bangkok at the Kempegowda International Airport here on Friday was arrested for attempting to smuggle hydroponic ganja worth Rs 2.77 crore, officials said. The identity of the accused, who has been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, has not been disclosed.
