Indigo crisis: Special trains from Vizag to Bengaluru to ease travel rush

Visakhapatnam: The Waltair Division of the East Coast Railway Zone here is running special trains to ease the travel rush to help people facing travel disruptions due to the mass flight cancellations by IndiGo. Among the six special trains being operated by ECoR, one will depart from Waltair Division headquarters in Visakhapatnam on December 8 for SMVT Bengaluru, with the return service scheduled to arrive in the port city on December 9. “Because of the flight cancellations, many people are stranded. Demand for train tickets has risen sharply. Taking this into account, we have introduced special trains to cater to the extra passengers created by this situation,” ECoR official Deepak Rout told PTI. Rout said the railway zone is closely monitoring passenger demand to add extra coaches to regular trains, and that additional special trains will be operated in coordination with other railway zones if required. National Herald case: Shivakumar calls Delhi Police notice ‘harassment’

Bengaluru : Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Saturday termed the Delhi Police’s notice to him, seeking financial and transactional details as part of its probe into the National Herald case, as “harassment” and said he will fight it legally. Condemning the move, Shivakumar, who is also the state Congress chief, questioned the need for a separate police probe when the ED had already filed a chargesheet in connection with the case. The notice issued by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) states that Shivakumar is “supposed to have vital information” pertaining to the National Herald case registered on October 3 this year, against Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi . His comments come after Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar’s visit to New Delhi on Wednesday to attend a wedding and to plan for a party event. The two leaders recently displayed bonhomie by hosting breakfast for each other at their residences in Bengaluru to quell speculation about leadership change in the state. While the Deputy CM flew to Delhi, Siddaramaiah reached Mangaluru to take part in an event to commemorate the centenary of social reformer Sri Narayana Guru’s meeting with Mahatma Gandhi. Bengaluru police probe hoax email threatening blasts at airport, malls

Bengaluru: Police have registered an FIR and launched an investigation to trace the sender of a threat email sent to the city police commissioner’s official ID, “warning of explosions” at Kempegowda International Airport and several malls in the city, officials said on Tuesday. The email, which was later found to be a ‘hoax bomb threat’, was sent at 11.53 am on November 30 by an individual identifying himself as Mohit Kumar through a Gmail account, to the commissioner’s official email ID, they said. “This is a warning from the Jaish-e-Mohammed white collar terror team. We have targeted Kempegowda International Airport, Orion mall, Lulu mall, Forum south mall and Mantri square mall for bomb blasts from 7 pm onwards,” the FIR quoted the email as saying. The FIR also noted that the email included a phone number and claimed the attacks could be prevented by calling the number and making a payment. Karnataka launches Digital e-Stamp system to make document stamping fully online

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government on Monday announced the rollout of the Digital e-Stamp (DeS) system aimed at strengthening efficiency, transparency and security in document stamping. The system will allow citizens to generate stamp papers online without relying on any agent or intermediary, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said. He said the entire stamping process is fully digital, supporting a paperless governance environment. Citizens can generate their Digital e-Stamp from home, with the service available 24×7 across the country, removing geographical limitations.
