Mangaluru: The SIT probing the alleged case of multiple rapes, murders, and burials in Dharmasthala recovered human skeletal remains during a spot inspection at Bangale Gudde on September 6, police said on Monday, September 7. The discovery was made in the presence of a relative of the victim, a 17-year-old college student, police added. The student was allegedly raped and murdered on October 9, 2012—a case that remains unresolved more than a decade later. Despite a CBI probe and Supreme Court intervention, the real perpetrators have never been identified. Police sources said the relative exhumed a human skull from the site on instructions from activist Girish Mattannavar, who had earlier obtained information from complainant C N Chinnaiah, based on whose complaint SIT was formed. Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday hit out at former BJP MP Pratap Simha for moving the High Court against the state government’s invitation to writer Banu Mushtaq to inaugurate the Dasara festival, calling it an effort to remain politically relevant. Tirupati: A devotee from Bengaluru donated over Rs 1 crore to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams’ Sri Balaji Aarogya Varaprasadini scheme. Karnataka CM says SIT probing Dharmasthala case, downplays demand for NIA probe

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday downplayed calls for a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into allegations of multiple murders, rapes and burials in Dharmasthala, saying the case is already being investigated by the state police through a Special Investigating Team (SIT). The chief minister was responding to questions about Hindu and Jain seers meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking an NIA probe into the case. “We have constituted SIT, they are police. Who is in NIA? They too are police,” Siddaramaiah told reporters. Karntaka cabinet decides to recommend SEC to hold local body polls using ballot paper

Bengaluru: The Congress government in Karnataka on Thursday decided to recommend to the State Election Commission (SEC) to hold all the future panchayat and urban local body polls in the state using ballot papers instead of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil said. There is erosion of confidence and credibility among people towards EVMs, he claimed after the cabinet meeting. The cabinet has also decided to authorise the SEC to “prepare, revise and, if necessary, redo” the electoral rolls for local body polls, the minister said, citing discrepancies in electoral rolls and allegations of “vote theft”.
