PM Modi to visit Bengaluru to launch yellow line metro, Vande Bharat Express

Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Bengaluru on Sunday to inaugurate the much-awaited Yellow Line of Bangalore Metro, and the Vande Bharat Express train between Bengaluru and Belagavi. As per the itinerary shared by the Chief Minister’s Office, Modi will participate in three events during his nearly four-hour visit to the city. On landing at the HAL Airport here at 10.30 am, the Prime Minister will travel by helicopter and road to the KSR Bengaluru (city) railway station, where he will flag off Vande Bharat Express trains between KSR Bengaluru-Belagavi. Karnataka CEO probes Rahul Gandhi’s election fraud claims, says Shivakumar

Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Friday said the state Chief Electoral Officer V Anbukumar has ordered an investigation into Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of election fraud. CEO Anbukumar asked Shivakumar to submit documents to support his claims with a declaration or oath as per the rule. Speaking to reporters after a Congress delegation led by him submitted a memorandum to Anbukumar, Shivakumar said he was informed that they (CEO’s office) have started their investigation. “I am glad to know this.” Shivakumar, who is also Congress state president, said he would visit the CEO’s office again to obtain the documents and evidence. Ahmedabad: A Muslim woman who was arrested last week for allegedly promoting the banned Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), a banned terror outfit on social media, had appealed to the Pakistan Army General Asim Munir to invade India during Operation Sindoor , to “unify Muslim lands” under “Project Khilafat”, Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) claims. Shama Parveen Ansari was arrested from her residence in Bengaluru on July 29 for sharing extremist and anti-India content of the AQIS and some other radical preachers. Man kills woman, then suicides in Bengaluru’s Tirupalya locality

Bengaluru: A woman was murdered and the accused allegedly died by suicide shortly after the crime in Tirupalya near Hebbagodi on the outskirts of Bengaluru on Wednesday, police said. The deceased woman has been identified as Mandira Mandal (27). Police said she was attacked with a knife and her throat was slit. The accused, Suman Mandal (28), was found hanging in the same house later. Both hailed from West Bengal. High Court warns of arrest under ESMA; RTC unions call off strike

Bengaluru: Following strong criticism and a warning of arrest from the Karnataka High Court, the RTC employees’ unions on Tuesday called off their indefinite bus strike across the state. The unions had continued their protest despite the court’s earlier order and the state government’s invocation of the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA), which had brought bus services to a halt and caused widespread inconvenience to the public. A bench headed by Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and comprising Justice C.M. Joshi, while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on the matter, strongly reprimanded the Joint Action Committee of RTC Labour Organisations. It warned that if the strike was not called off, contempt of court proceedings would be initiated, and the state government could arrest the office bearers under the ESMA. IndiGo commences construction work for new MRO facility in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Domestic carrier IndiGo has commenced construction work on its new maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility here, with the groundbreaking ceremony taking place at the Kempegowda International Airport on Tuesday. To be built on 31 acres of land, the MRO with a capacity of up to 12 bays and the capability to handle both narrow and wide-body aircraft will be fully functional by 2028, IndiGo said. The ceremony was attended by the Commissioner for Industries in the Karnataka Government, Gunjan Krishna, IndiGo Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers, Bangalore International Airport Ltd’s CEO Hari Marar, among others. Bengaluru: Employees of Karnataka’s state-owned transport corporations began an indefinite strike on Tuesday morning, severely affecting public bus services across the state and leaving passengers in the lurch. The unions went ahead with the strike despite a court stay against the agitation, underway pressing demands including wage revision. Buses remained parked at depots and only a few were seen running, as some staff chose not to participate in the strike. Some buses in rural areas operated as a few drivers opted to work for the convenience of students to ferry them to their schools, said sources in the transport department.
