Uber, Rapido must close bike taxi operations by June 16: Karnataka HC

The Karnataka High Court on Friday, June 13, ordered all app-based cab aggregators companies (like Ola, Uber, Rapido, etc.) to stop two-wheeler service by June 16 across the state. A bench comprising Acting Chief Justice V Kameshwar Rao and Justice Sreenivas Harish Kumar rejected interim relief to the petitioners, Uber and Rapido, who had challenged an April 2 order by a single judge directing bike taxi operators to halt services within six weeks. That deadline was later extended to June 15. The single judge had ordered that bike taxis cannot operate in Karnataka unless the state government notifies relevant guidelines and rules under the Motor Vehicles Act. Karnataka seeks bigger share of central taxes, Rs 1.15 lakh cr for Bengaluru infrastructure

New Delhi: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday met 16th Finance Commission Chairman Arvind Panagariya, demanding a larger allocation for the state from the central tax pool and Rs 1.15 lakh crore investment to strengthen Bengaluru’s infrastructure for the five-year period beginning April 1, 2026. In the meeting, which lasted for more than an hour, Siddaramaiah flagged that there has been a “stark imbalance in fiscal returns” despite Karnataka contributing nearly 8.7 per cent of the national GDP with just 5 per cent of the population and ranking second in the country in GST collections. “The imbalance in fiscal returns is so much that for every rupee Karnataka contributes to union taxes, it receives only 15 paise in return,” the CM told reporters after the meeting. Kalaburagi: Amid speculations over a cabinet reshuffle in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday clarified that no such discussion has taken place. Rumours gained traction after Kharge, former party chief Rahul Gandhi, AICC general secretary, (Organisation) K C Venugopal and the general secretary in-charge for Karnataka, Randeep Surjewala held a meeting with Siddaramaiah and his deputy and Pradesh Congress Committee president D K Shivakumar at the Congress’ new headquarters in New Delhi on Tuesday. “No discussion has happened on this (KPCC president change), also there has been no discussion on cabinet reshuffle, and new induction into the cabinet,” Kharge told reporters in Kalaburagi. Bengaluru: The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) court in Bengaluru, on Tuesday, issued a notice to the Congress-led government in Karnataka over the suspension of senior IPS officer in connection with the recent stampede near the Chinnaswamy Stadium here last week. Senior IPS officer Vikash Kumar Vikash has challenged the suspension order issued by the Karnataka government in the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) court at Bengaluru and filed a petition before it on Monday. Hearing the petition, the CAT bench considered the submission by the state through the Advocate General Shashi Kiran Shetty that the prosecution requires time to file objections in this regard. Bengaluru : The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday denied any interim relief to Nikhil Sosale, marketing head of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), in the June 4 stadium stampede that claimed 11 lives here. The court also reserved its order on his petition till June 11. Sosale was arrested on June 6 by the Central Crime Branch. Bengaluru : Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar reached Delhi on Tuesday to brief the Congress high command about the June 4 Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede, which claimed 11 lives. Both leaders departed for Delhi on the same flight at 7 a.m. Sources revealed that Rahul Gandhi , the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, will personally speak with the duo about the incident. The Congress high command is concerned about the handling of the RCB victory celebration events and the public backlash against the government following the stampede tragedy. Sources also indicate that Rahul Gandhi and AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge had called the state leadership to inquire about accountability for the stampede tragedy.
