HC denies interim relief to RCB official in Bengaluru stampede case

Bengaluru : The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday denied any interim relief to Nikhil Sosale, marketing head of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), in the June 4 stadium stampede that claimed 11 lives here. The court also reserved its order on his petition till June 11. Sosale was arrested on June 6 by the Central Crime Branch. CM Siddaramaiah, Shivakumar in Delhi to brief party high command on stampede case

Bengaluru : Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar reached Delhi on Tuesday to brief the Congress high command about the June 4 Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede, which claimed 11 lives. Both leaders departed for Delhi on the same flight at 7 a.m. Sources revealed that Rahul Gandhi , the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, will personally speak with the duo about the incident. The Congress high command is concerned about the handling of the RCB victory celebration events and the public backlash against the government following the stampede tragedy. Sources also indicate that Rahul Gandhi and AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge had called the state leadership to inquire about accountability for the stampede tragedy. The Bengaluru city police on Saturday, June 7, arrested seven persons and detained a minor from Bihar in connection with the murder of a teenage girl whose body was found stuffed in a suitcase near railway tracks in Chandapura on May 21. The suitcase, discovered by passersby near the Anekal area, initially raised fears of containing explosives. However, upon opening it, police found the body of a strangled girl. Investigations revealed that the murder had taken place the previous night. Police said the victim was the second daughter of a daily wage labourer from Bihar, who has two wives and seven daughters. Bengaluru: IPL team Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) moved the Karnataka High Court on Monday, June 9, seeking to quash criminal case against it in the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede incident that claimed 11 young lives. DNA Entertainment Networks Pvt Ltd, the event organiser, has also filed a separate petition challenging the FIR against it. Royal Challengers Sports Limited (RCSL), owner of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), has contended that it has been falsely implicated in the case. According to the petition, RCSL claimed that it had clearly communicated on social media that only limited passes were available. SC refuses urgent hearing on plea for protection of theatres screening ‘Thug Life’

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to grant an urgent hearing on a plea seeking protection against alleged threats over the screening of Kamal Haasan’s film “Thug Life” in Karnataka theatres. A bench comprising Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justice Manmohan asked the theatre association from Karnataka to approach the Karnataka High Court instead. Speaking to media on his arrival at Mysuru Airport, he said, “I have no connection with this. When we have not committed any mistake, there is no question of embarrassment.
