Fan murder case: Actor Darshan, associates’ judicial custody extended

Bengaluru: A court on Thursday extended the judicial custody of Kannada superstar Darshan and his associates for 14 days till August 1 in the fan murder case. The 24th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) passed the order after Darshan and the other accused were produced before the court through video conference. Darshan was arrested on June 11 in connection with brutally murdering Renukaswamy from Chitradurga. Renukaswamy had allegedly sent a derogatory and obscene message to Pavithra Gowda. While Darshan, his partner Pavithra Gowda and his 13 associates are lodged in the central prison at Parapapna Agrahara on the outskirts of Bengaluru, four other accused are in Tumakuru prison. Bengaluru mall denies entry to man in dhoti, turban; shutdown for a week

The Karnataka government decided to shut down Bengaluru’s GT Mall for a week after its authorities disallowed an elderly man to enter its premises. Speaking in the Assembly on Thursday, Minister for Urban Development and Town Planning Bhyrathi Suresh said, “I asked our ex-BBMP commissioner, as per the government laws, the GT Mall can be shut for seven days. Bengaluru: Viewing pornographic images of children through the Internet is not an offense under the Information Technology Act, according to a recent ruling by the Karnataka High Court. The decision came from a bench led by Justice M. Nagaprasanna, which heard a petition filed by N Inayatullah of Hoskote seeking the cancellation of a case registered against him for viewing such images. The court opined that under Section 67B of the Information Technology Act, punishment is applicable for creating and distributing child pornographic content through electronic means. Since the petitioner had not produced or shared child pornography but only viewed it, the court found no grounds for an offence under this section. “As mentioned in Section 67B of the Information Technology Act, any person can be punished for preparing child obscene images and sharing the same through electronic devices. Bengaluru: Facing stiff opposition from the industry bodies and business tycoons on the bill reserving jobs for locals, the Karnataka government has decided to hold back from introducing the controversial bill in the Assembly on Thursday. “The draft bill intended to provide reservations for Kannadigas in private sector companies, industries, and enterprises is still in the preparation stage,” the Chief Minister wrote on X. He added that a comprehensive discussion will be held in the next Cabinet meeting to make a final decision. Fakeerapan, a farmer by profession, had gone to enjoy a movie with his son Nagaraj at the G T Mall on Magadi Main Road in Bengaluru around 6 p.m. on July 16 but was stopped by the mall management due to his attire. Fakeerapan was wearing a turban and a dhoti . Mall authorities said that the attire was inappropriate. When Nagaraj questioned the unruly behaviour, they insisted his father wear pants. Speaking to media persons, Nagaraj expressed his wish to watch a movie with my father in a multiplex. Fakeerapan said it was unfair to treat people based on their attire. “How can people from the village let go of our panche  ( dhoti)  and come dressed in pants to watch a film?” he asked. Mall management apologies The following day, on July 17, social activists from the Kanada organization staged a protest in solidarity with Fakeerapan and demanded an apology from the mall management. Will not interfere with recruitment for technical jobs: Shivakumar on job quota issue

Bengaluru : Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said on Wednesday that the Congress government will not interfere with the technical requirements of the companies. While answering questions by media persons here on the objections of industrialists to the state government’s reservation policy to provide jobs for Kannada people, Dy CM Shivakumar said, “The companies have grown in Karnataka. We will give exemptions for technical requirements. It’s not that we will prevent them from recruitment. However, the companies will have to bring the matter to the government’s notice,” he underlined. When asked about the reservation of a certain percentage on management and other jobs, Shivakumar stated that there is a ceiling on jobs and further information could be revealed later.
