Arogya Karnataka scheme lacks easy way to identify hospitals

Bengaluru: Thousands of hospitals are enrolled in the Ayushman Bharat-Arogya Karnataka (ABARK) scheme, providing essential services. However, the absence of an efficient system to identify the network of hospitals by the state government has led to difficulties for patients and their families during emergencies. Several private insurance companies have developed mobile apps and websites to facilitate the identification of registered hospitals, making it easier to locate the nearest hospital in urgent situations. Unfortunately, the state government has not implemented such a system, leaving beneficiaries struggling to identify the nearest hospital even with a card under the ABARK scheme. This has led to patients wandering from one hospital to another to access services in times of emergencies. Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday met Home Minister Amit Shah and asked him to release drought relief funds by convening a high-level committee meeting. The Chief Minister submitted a three page letter to Amit Shah in which he said: “It is learned that the sub-committee of the National Executive Committee, chaired by the union Agriculture Secretary, met on November 13 and considered Karnataka’s memorandums and the report of the IMCT. “The sub-committee, it is learnt, has submitted its report to the Ministry of Home, which is expected to place the same before the high-level committee which you chair. “It is nearly three months since we submitted our first memorandum and two months since the Inter Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) made its field visits. 64-year-old Bengaluru resident dies due to COVID-19 infection

Bengaluru: A 64-year-old man died in the city due to COVID-19 infection five days ago, Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said on Wednesday. Asked if the cause of death is the new subvariant JN.1 of the SARS CoV-2 virus, he said it is not known so far. The person, who had comorbidities, was a resident of Chamarajpet and died on December 15, the Minister told reporters. “It is still not known whether the patient had JN.1 sub variant infection. He had heart failure, and also TB infection. He also had hypertension, lung disease, bronchial asthma, along with COVID-19 and pneumonia,” Rao added. Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare Services, Randeep D, told PTI: “It’s the first (COVID death) after recent surge in cases”.
