Karnataka farmers body meets CM after protest over loan recovery action

Amid protests and mounting concerns over alleged farmer harassment in Karnataka related to bank loans, a delegation from the Karnataka Rajya Rythu Sangh, affiliated with AIKMKS, held a crucial meeting with chief minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday, August 22. The delegation, led by president of the farmers body Madhava Reddy, all-India co-convenor of AIKMKS S Jhanshi and Malikarjuna Reddy. Aland MLA BR Patil and Dr Sunilam of Madhya Pradesh-based Sanyukt Kissan Morcha were also present. The farmers, hailing from various districts, took out a protest march in Ballari a day earlier, August 21, condemning what they perceived as “harassment of farmers by Karnataka Gramin Bank.” They demanded a farm loan waiver. Karnataka Gramin Bank and Krishna Gramin Bank have reportedly extended loans to approximately 54 lakh farmers, with pending dues totaling Rs. 25,000 crore. AP: Man sentenced to death for murdering mother, daughter, raping minor

Rayachoti: A court in Andhra Pradesh sentenced a man to death on Tuesday for murdering two women and raping a 12-year-old girl in 2021. The Chittoor District Court handed the death sentence to Syed Moula Ali from Annamayya district for murdering Saralamma and her mother Gangulamma. Gangadhar Rao told PTI. Later, when Saralamma’s mother Gangullamma questioned him about the whereabouts of her daughter, Ali killed her too. Following these two murders, Ali shifted Saralamma’s children to Bengaluru. Rao said Ali would rape Saralamma’s 12-year-old daughter whenever he visited them in Bengaluru. New Delhi: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday condemned the Karnataka government’s decision to scrap the NEP as “anti-student” and asked the state’s Congress dispensation not to play with the futures of the young generation. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah last week said the NEP will be scrapped in the state from the next academic year. New Delhi: The Bengaluru Customs officials on Tuesday said that they have arrested two persons for allegedly smuggling 48,000 cigarette sticks worth Rs 8.16 lakh. A senior Customs official said that both the accused were held based on basic profiling. The official said that both passengers arrived at Bengaluru airport from Bangkok at 10:15 p.m. on August 21. “They were intercepted when they were attempting to cross Green Channel. Examination of checked-in baggage led to recovery and seizure of 48,000 cigarette sticks worth Rs 8.16 lakh,” said the official. “Both the individuals have been arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act,” the official said. Further investigations into the matter are ongoing. A packed launch schedule for ISRO after Chandrayaan-3 mission

Bengaluru: A mission to study the Sun, and launching a climate observation satellite, a test vehicle as part of the Gaganyaan human space flight programme, and an Indo-US synthetic aperture radar — ISRO has a packed schedule ahead. In addition, XPoSat (X-ray Polarimeter Satellite), the country’s first dedicated polarimetry mission to study various dynamics of bright astronomical X-ray sources in extreme conditions, is also ready for launch, an ISRO official said on Tuesday. Aditya-L1, the first space-based Indian observatory to study the Sun, is getting ready for the launch, most likely in September first week. According to ISRO Chairman, Somanath S, the space agency has also lined up the launch of a climate observation satellite INSAT-3DS. Bengaluru : The BJP’s Karnataka unit has been directed not to stop the party leaders who want to join the ruling Congress in the state. The Congress leaders have been claiming that about 10 to 15 BJP leaders will join their party through ‘Operation Hast’ ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Former Minister and BJP MLA S.T. Somashekar, Shivaram Hebbar, also a former minister and BJP MLA, are all set to join Congress party, according to sources. A large number of supporters of Somashekar, who have joined the Congress, claimed that Somashekar joining the grand-old party is mere a formality. Hebbar is upset with BJP leadership and he is also likely to join Congress soon, sources said. Both leaders had joined BJP in 2019 through ‘Operation Lotus’ from Congress.
