Bengaluru : Heavy overnight rains here led to flooding on Thursday and made people to experience again the nightmarish struggle they endured recently, caused by showers and inundation. Normal life was thrown out of gear and many parts of the city were flooded while a compound wall of the Metro Rail collapsed and cars parked close by came under mounds of rubble, officials said. The busy Shivajinagar neighbourhood resembled a river in spate and cars and bikes were swept away and people struggled to save their belongings. Water entered several houses in nearby Ramnagara district as well and the residents were evacuated to safer places. Suburban residential and commercial areas in and around the Outer Ring Road, badly hit a month ago due to heavy rains was not affected during the current spell of rain. Karnataka Cabinet decides to promulgate an ordinance to hike reservations for SCs & STs

Bengaluru : The Karnataka Cabinet on Thursday decided to promulgate an ordinance increasing the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) reservation in the State. The Cabinet on October 8 accorded its formal approval to increase the SC/ST quota. The ordinance once promulgated after the Governor’s assent, will increase reservations for SCs from 15 to 17 percent and for STs from 3 to 7 percent. This will, however, take the reservation tally in Karnataka to 56 percent, above the 50 percent cap fixed by the Supreme Court in the Indira Sawhney judgment. Bengaluru: Bengaluru woke up to a rainy day on Thursday with several areas getting flooded and life thrown out of gear. Heavy rain has been pounding the city since Wednesday night, resulting in the inundation of the roads, residential areas, and also caused wall collapse. The authorities are crossing their fingers as the India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for three days in the state capital. Heavy rain continued to pound the city till the early hours. Wall built near the BMRCL construction site near the JD(S) party office collapsed resulting in public outrage. Seven cars and two bikes were damaged in the incident. Two persons who were in the car that was parked beside the wall, had a narrow escape. Bengaluru : Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Wednesday demanded Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to initiate judicial investigation by a sitting high court judge, on all the alleged irregularities during the previous governments. The former chief minister was responding to Bommai’s statement that details of corruption during the previous Congress regimes in the state would be sent to the party’s national leader Rahul Gandhi. “Bommai has stated that he will send the details of corruption of Karnataka Congress leaders to Rahul Gandhi. Bommai should not forget that Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister now, and not Shri Rahul Gandhi,” Siddaramaiah tweeted.
