Idgah Maidan row: Karnataka govt appeals HC’s status quo order

Bengaluru : The Karnataka government has filed an appeal against the high Court’s status quo order in connection with the controversial Idgah Maidan located in Bengaluru’s Chamarajpet area. In the ruling, a single judge bench of Justice Hemanth Chandana Goudar had directed the government to initiate measures to see to it that the controversy does not become a crisis situation like the dispute over hoisting the tricolour at the Idgah Maidan of Hubballi in north Karnataka. The BJP government has submitted a petition before a division bench, questioning the status quo order on the premises which did not allow celebration of Ganesh festival there, and seeking a review of the order. Karnataka cabinet’s nod to strengthen Lokayukta

Bengaluru:  The Karnataka cabinet on Thursday gave a nod to empower the Lokayukta in the state. The cabinet meeting, presided over by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, took a decision not to file a petition of appeal against the judgment of two-judge bench nullifying the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and giving police power to Lokayukta. The Cabinet has decided to follow the order of the High Court. State Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister J C Madhuswamy said the government will look into the issue of providing enough staff and consent for the prosecution. Bengaluru:  The ruling BJP in Karnataka is in a dilemma over the Hindutva activists’ demand for celebrating the Ganesh festival at the controversial Idgah Maidan in Chamarajpet locality of Bengaluru and is treading cautiously on the issue. Minister for Revenue R Ashok stated on Thursday that a decision would be taken regarding the celebration of the Ganesh festival at the Idgah Maidan. “We will discuss with the officers. Maintaining law and order is very important. Bengaluru: The Special Court for Peoples Representatives in Bengaluru on Wednesday asked the Karnataka police to submit all documents pertaining to the contractor’s suicide case in which ex-minister K S Eshwarappa is the main accused. The family of Santhosh Patil, the contractor from Belagavi who committed suicide alleging a demand for 40 per cent commission in contract work by Eshwarappa’s aides, has questioned the clean chit given to him in the court. Prashanth Patil, cousin brother of Santhosh Patil, has submitted a petition questioning the clean chit to Eshwarappa by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
