Bangalore: Robbery behind police Commissioner’s office raises concern

Bengaluru: An incident of robbery right next to the Police Commissioner’s Office in Bengaluru has raised concern among the public. The robbers, after burgling Rs 4.5 lakh cash, managed to zoom past a high security zone in front of Raj Bhavan and disappear. Despite a complaint, and possession of CCTV a footage, the police are unable to make any breakthrough in the case. The incident, which had taken place last Saturday (July 16) in broad daylight, came to light recently. It took place in the high security zone. The Bengaluru Police Commissioner’s Office, Raj Bhavan and Vidhana Soudha are located very close to the place of the incident. Bengaluru: Debate on Anti-Conversion Bill is back in Karnataka with the High Court accepting a PIL and issuing a notice to the ruling BJP on the implementation of the law by promulgating an ordinance. On Friday, the High Court directed the government to file objections with regard to the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the government’s move. The petition claimed that the Anti-Conversion law (Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Bill 2021) exhibited intolerance and questioned its constitutional validity. The petition filed by All Karnataka United Christian Forum for Human Rights and Evangelical Fellowship of India from New Delhi stated that the bill is an attack on democratic values which unites the country. A bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J.M. Khazi issued notice to the Secretary of Home department and Principal Secretary of Law Department. New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday stayed a Karnataka High Court order refusing to quash criminal proceedings pending against former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa under Prevention of Corruption of Act on charges of de-notifying several acres of land in 2006-07. The senior BJP leader had moved the top court challenging the high court order. A bench of Chief Justice N.V. Ramana issued notice to the Karnataka government on a special leave petition filed by Yediyurappa and also stayed the high court order. Bengaluru: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and veteran BJP leader B.S. Yediyurappa on Friday announced his retirement from electoral politics, saying he is “back-tracking” to make way for his son B.Y. Vijayendra. He made the announcement in Anjanapura of Shikaripura in Shivamogga district in Karnataka, saying he would not contest for next assembly elections from Shikaripura constituency from where he began his political career. Vijayendra is currently holding the post of Vice President in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). “I won’t contest in the next elections from Shikaripura. Vijayendra will contest in my place. I appeal to the people to ensure his resounding victory,” he stated. Karnataka cabinet expansion likely by Aug first week

Bengaluru:  The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka has finally decided to take up the long-pending task of Cabinet expansion. According to party sources, the high command has taken a call on the issue, and the expansion is likely to be done by the first week of August. Former ministers, K.S. Eshwarappa and Ramesh Jarkiholi who had resigned following serious allegations, are most likely to get cabinet berth, party sources said. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai would visit Delhi on Sunday (July 24) and top leaders are expected to give green signal to the exercise of cabinet expansion, according to BJP sources. Karnataka police gives clean chit to ex-minister Eshwarappa in suicide case

Bengaluru: Karnataka police, in its B-report (closure report), on Wednesday gave clean chit to former Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister K.S. Eshwarappa in connection with the suicide case of contractor and BJP worker Santhosh Patil who blamed Eshwarappa for his death. The former minister celebrated the development and said that on the day of lodging of complaint against him, he knew that he would come out clean. “It is up to the party to give back cabinet berth,” he added. Congress party, which had launched an agitation against ruling BJP government and has been demanding arrest of Eshwarappa, has cried foul play in connection with the development.
