Karnataka profs who pasted messages against female ex-colleague in public toilets arrested

Dakshina Kannada: The Karnataka police on Thursday arrested three persons including two professors for writing defamatory messages against a former woman colleague and pasting the handbills in public toilets across Karnataka to harass her. The accused have been identified as Prakash Shenoy (44), Head of Administration of a college, Pradeep Poojari (36), and B.S. Shetty (32). According to the police, the accused had prepared handbills with defamatory messages, the cell number, and the email id of the victim, who was their former colleague. One of the accused, Pradeep Poojari, was also accused of defaming another female professor in 2019. The accused had allegedly put up the posters in the public toilets of all bus stands in Suliya, Subramanya, Sampaje, Madikeri, Mysuru, Chikkamagalur, Mudigere, Balehonnur, N.R. Kejriwal will also hold a meeting with the party-state unit leaders in view of the upcoming Assembly elections in the state next year, according to the sources. Panel headed by former HC judge to scrutinise tenders above Rs 50 cr: Bommai

Shivamogga : A high-level committee headed by a retired High Court Judge and comprising an economic expert and a technical expert of the concerned department has been constituted to scrutinize tenders above Rs 50 crore, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said. Addressing a media conference in Shivamogga, Bommai said, “The committee has been constituted under the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurement (KTTP) Act. The tenders would be awarded only after the committee scrutinizes the estimates, tender pre-conditions and other aspects. The committee will start functioning within the next few days. One of the members of the Sri Ram Sene who was arrested for vandalising the cart of a Muslim vendor Nabisaab Killedaar, has filed a counter-complaint against the latter. The complainant, a right-winged Hindu activist named Mahaninga Aigali, has accused Nabisaab. Aigali claims that the vendor had offered him watermelon and “spat on it” after making the offer. “Four of us had gone to the temple on two bikes. Bengaluru:  Students wearing hijab will not be allowed to write the crucial annual II PUC examination in Karnataka, state Minister for Education B.C. Nagesh said on Tuesday. “All students must follow rules on uniform, hijab cladding students won’t be allowed,” he added. After successfully conducting SSLC (class 10) exams amid hijab controversy, the Karnataka government is all set to hold crucial II PUC examinations from April 22 to May 18 in the state. As many as 6,84,255 students have enrolled for the examinations, stated an official release from the Department of Pre-University Education. Elaborate security arrangements have been made for smooth conduct of exams amid possibility of resurfacing of the controversy.
