Man killed over Rs 10 lakh by sons in Karnataka

Mandya: Two men have been arrested for allegedly killing their father over Rs 10 lakh in Keremegala Koppalu village near Srirangapatna in Mandya district, police said on Saturday. The arrested persons are identified as Shashikumar and Rajesh. Marikalaiah (68), a cab driver, owned 8 acres of agricultural land. He was leading his retirement life in the village, while his sons, also working as cab drivers stayed with their families in Bengaluru. Marikalaiah had agreed to sell one acre of land for Rs 30 lakh. It was agreed upon with his sons that all three of them would share Rs 10 lakh each. Marikalaiah had told his sons that he would sign the documents only if they gave his share of money. However, as his son’s did not give him money at the time of registration, he refused to give his signature and returned to his village. Bengaluru: At least 58 female students from a college in Karnataka’s Shivamogga district were suspended on Saturday for wearing hijab and also staging an agitation demanding that they should be allowed to attend classes. The students were from Government Pre-University College of Shiralakoppa. Although the college management, development committee tried to explain to the hijab-clad students the interim order of the High Court, they did not listen and pressed for wearing of hijab, according to the principal. Hence, they were suspended from the college temporarily. The enraged students got into arguments with college authorities, leading to an intervention by the police to disperse them. Tension also prevailed in Belagavi, Yadgir, Bellary, Chitradurgam and Shiamogga districts when students wearing hijab demanded entry into the classrooms. Hubballi: Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Mining, Pralhad Joshi said on Friday that those who come to schools or colleges to make girl students wear or remove the hijab in classrooms should be arrested. The hijab issue is now in the court. When the court is seized of the matter, a ruckus is being created. “Wherever the interim order regarding wearing of the hijab and not allowing religious symbols is not being followed, implement rules strictly,” Joshi said. Whatever may be the final decision of the court, whether it comes in favour of wearing the hijab or not, one has to follow the court orders until then. Karnataka police arrest Andhra couple for murder after 7 years

Bengaluru: Karnataka police have arrested a couple on charges of killing their relative, who allegedly abused the accused woman sexually in Bengaluru, police said on Friday. The accused are identified as Mohammad Ghouse (39) and Kauser a.k.a Heena (27), both residents of Rayadurga in Ananthpur district of Andhra Pradesh. The couple had killed Vajeer Pasha (35), their relative, at their residence on May 13, 2015. According to police, the accused Mohammad married Heena in 2012 and resided in Andhra Pradesh. Few months later, he shifted to Gajanananagar in Hegganahalli, Bengaluru. He stitched clothes at his residence and his wife assisted him. He supplied clothes to garment factories. Bengaluru: In further hardening of the stand, the Karnataka government on Thursday issued a circular which says that wearing of hijab is not permitted in minority institutions run under the state government. Secretary for Minority Welfare, Haj and Wakf Department Major P. Manivannan stated that the interim order of the full bench of the High Court also applies to residential schools run under the Minority Welfare Department and Moulana Azad Model Schools (English medium). All educational institutions run by the Minority Welfare Department have been ordered not to allow hijab, scarves, saffron shawls, and other religious symbols in the classrooms.
