Bengaluru: Condemning the attacks on RTC bus staff in Maharashtra and Belagavi for not speaking Marathi, Kannada organisations have announced a Karnataka bandh on March 22. The Chairman of Kannada Okkuta (Federation of Kannada Organizations), an umbrella body of pro-Kannada and other groups, Vatal Nagaraj, made the announcement in Bengaluru after holding a meeting with various Kannada organisations. Karnataka court issues summons to Yediyurappa in POCSO case

Bengaluru : The First Fast Track court in Bengaluru on Friday issued summons to former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP Central Parliamentary Committee member B.S. Yediyurappa in connection with a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) case, directing him to be present before it on March 15. The court has also issued summons to the other accused in the case, Y.M. Aruna and Rudresh Marulasiddaiah and asked them to be present before the court on the same day. The court passed the order after considering the charge sheet submitted by the police in the case. Yediyurappa had so far got immunity from the High Court earlier over the summons. Man arrested for killing wife moments before her cremation in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A 51-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his wife and attempting to cover it up by making it look like a natural death on the outskirts of the city, police said on Thursday. He was caught minutes before her cremation after police received an anonymous call raising suspicion about the cause of death, they said. Bengaluru: Bus services between Karnataka and Maharashtra have been affected due to attack on bus drivers from both sides amid the sudden flare-up of border row in Belagavi in the last two days. The decades-old dispute resurfaced on Friday when a bus driver and a conductor were beaten up for allegedly not speaking in Marathi at Marihal in Belagavi. The bus conductor stated in his police complaint that a girl asked for a ticket in Marathi. When he said he did not know Marathi and asked her to speak in Kannada, she and her male friend attacked him. At Marihal, a group of youths intercepted the bus and beat up the conductor. According to police sources, Hyder Ali was returning from a live band party when his rivals waylaid his car and hacked him to death near Garuda Mall around1.30 am. Over 397 cr women availed free travel scheme till date, claims Karnataka govt

Bengaluru: The Congress-led Karnataka government has released official statistics on the beneficiaries and expenditure of one of its flagship schemes, the Shakti Scheme, which enables free travel for women across the state in RTC buses. According to an official statement from the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), a total of 397.97 crore women passengers have availed of the scheme from its launch on June 11, 2023, until February 21, 2025. The ticket value of these passengers stands at Rs 9,743.09 crore. This figure includes passengers from KSRTC, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), North West Karnataka Transport Corporation (NWKRTC), and Kalyan Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC). On February 21, 2025, a total of 74.07 lakh women passengers travelled on RTC buses, with the ticket value amounting to Rs 20.19 crore. Bengaluru water board imposes restrictions on usage of drinking water

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has imposed restrictions on the use of drinking water for non-essential activities due to rising temperatures and decreasing groundwater levels. Those found violating the order would be fined Rs 5,000, it said. According to the order issued in the public interest, under Sections 33 and 34 of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Act 1964, the BWSSB has prohibited the usage of potable water in the city of Bengaluru for cleaning vehicles, gardening, construction of buildings and roads, for entertainment purposes or decorations like fountains. Malls and cinema halls are permitted to use water only for drinking. “In case of violation of prohibitory order, a fine of Rs 5,000 will be applicable for the first time offence and recurrence of this violation will result in a fine of Rs 5,000 with an additional penalty of Rs 500 per day,” it stated. Bengaluru : The Karnataka Lokayukta, which is probing the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land scam matter in which Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was named as one of the accused, has sought more time from the court to submit the final report. Considering the plea, Judge Santhosh Gajanan Bhat of the Special Court for MLAs/MPs in Bengaluru has posted the matter for hearing on February 24.
