Denied Ayushman Bharat insurance, Bengaluru cancer patient kills self

A 72-year-old cancer patient reportedly killed himself in Bengaluru after being denied insurance benefits of the Ayushman Bharat scheme. He was a retired state government employee who held an insurance card under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). Being above the age of 70, he was eligible a health coverage up to Rs 5 lakhs. Following a diagnosis of gastric cancer at Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology (KMIO) in Bengaluru, doctors suggested a major surgery after multiple rounds of chemotherapy. However, his Ayushman Bharat coverage could not be availed as the state of Karnataka has not implemented the scheme for senior citizens. Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara stated on Friday that based on the current information about the Maoist activities in the state, the six individuals, who surrendered recently, are believed to be the last surviving in the state. Speaking to reporters, he responded to questions on one of the Maoists, Ravindra, remaining elusive even though the government claimed that Karnataka is now a “Maoist-free state”. Further, addressing the disappearance of Ravindra, the state home minister said there is information that the group of surrendered Maoists had expelled him. However, the reason for his expulsion is unknown, and an investigation is underway. “If anyone else emerges, they will be monitored,” he added. Regarding the demand for compensation for the family of Vikram Gowda, a Maoist killed in an encounter, he said the request would be reviewed. Sexual assault videos case: Karnataka HC stalls framing of charges against Revanna

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday, January 9, issued directions to stall the process of framing of charges against Prajwal Revanna, the former JD(S) MP and grandson of former Prime Minister, HD Deve Gowda in the sensational sexual assault video case. The bench headed by Justice M Nagaprasanna has passed the order in this regard and issued directions to the lower court not to frame charges against accused Prajwal, who is lodged in the Bengaluru Central Jail, till January 16. Earlier, the date for framing of charges against him was fixed as January 13. The bench passed the order while looking into the petition submitted by Prajwal Revanna in this regard. However, it has directed the trial court to continue the hearing of the case until January 16. Bengaluru: Six hardcore naxals (Maoists) on Wednesday surrendered before Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah here. As a symbol of giving up their armed struggle, Latha Mundagaru handed over her Naxal uniform to the Chief Minister along with a copy of her memorandum. Siddaramaiah welcomed the ultra and her five associates by giving them roses and copies of the Constitution. The CM said Sundari Kutluru is from Dakshina Kannada district, Latha from Chikkamagaluru, Marappa Aroli from Raichur and Vanajakshi Balehole from Chikkamagaluru. Swiggy launches 15 min food delivery app ‘Snacc’

Amid rising competition in the delivery app market, food and grocery delivery platform Swiggy has launched a separate application, Snacc, promising food delivery in just 15 minutes. The app was launched on January 7 and is currently available in select areas of Bengaluru. Snacc can be downloaded from both iOS and Android stores. The app’s landing page features a menu categorized into options such as Indian breakfast, coffee, beverages, and eggs and protein. According to a report by Moneycontrol , Swiggy plans to expand Snacc to other parts of the country in the future. Interestingly, the concept for the app and its offerings was reportedly developed only around mid-December. Hyderabad: The Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) Hyderabad Zonal Office has provisionally attached 27 immovable properties of Nowhera Shaik and Heera Group of Companies on Wednesday, January 8, which have a market value of Rs 103.4 crore and a book value of Rs 17.14 crore. Nowhera Shaik, Heera Group, and others were booked under the provisions of the PMLA, 2002 in a case related to defrauding people through a Ponzi scheme by collecting thousands of crores of rupees from them on the false promise of abnormally high returns of around 36% per annum. Bengaluru : The Lokayukta officials conducted simultaneous raids against seven government officials in Karnataka on Wednesday in connection with the disproportionate assets case, sources said. The raids were conducted in nine places – Bengaluru , Chikkamagaluru, Bidar, Belagavi, Gadag, Ballari, Raichur, Bagalkot and Tumakuru districts. According to sources, the raids were conducted at the residence of a Joint Director of the Transport Department in Bengaluru, the residence of a Health Officer in Kadur Primary Health Centre in Chikkamagaluru, the house of an Engineer attached to the Minor Irrigation Department in Bidar . CCI probe order on Amazon, Flipkart: SC transfers all pending cases to Karnataka HC

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday transferred to Karnataka High Court petitions of Amazon and Flipkart, challenging a Competition Commission of India order for a probe into the e-commerce giants for alleged malpractices. A bench of Justice Abhay S Oka and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan said if pleadings in some of the transferred petitions were not completed, the judge seized of the matter would grant reasonable time to complete the pleadings. “It will be appropriate if all the petitions which are the subject matter of this transfer petition are transferred for hearing to the High Court of Karnataka ,” the bench said. During the hearing, Attorney General R Venkataramani informed the apex court that, after filing of the present petition by fair trade regulator the Competition Commission of India (CCI), five pleas had been filed in different high courts. Bengaluru: A woman was allegedly strangled to death by her son, who was in an inebriated state, before he took his life by hanging, in the old Chandapura area on the outskirts of the city, police said on Sunday. The incident occurred on Saturday night, following a fight between the mother and son at their home, the police said. The deceased have been identified as Lakshmi Devi (41) and her son Ramesh (21). According to the police, Ramesh was an alcoholic, and the incident occurred after he quarrelled with his mother, who had objected to his drinking habits. Elephant stuck between rail barrier rescued in Karnataka

In the early hours of Sunday, January 5, an elephant got stuck between a barricade in the Veeranahosahalli range of Nagarahole Tiger Reserve in Mysuru, Karnataka.  It is assumed that the elephant struggled for an hour before being rescued by the national park authorities. A video has emerged of the incident showing the tusker trapped in a limbo over a rail fence with cement pillars erected along its length. Bengaluru: A 15-year-old girl died after a tree branch fell on her on Saturday, police said. The girl has been identified as Tejaswini, they added. The incident occurred within the V V Puram police station limits when the girl was returning home after attending school. On her way, a tree branch fell on her, and she died, a senior police officer said. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway, police said. Bengaluru: A Bengaluru court has granted bail to estranged wife and in-laws of automobile firm executive Atul Subhash, who committed suicide here last month, citing troubled marriage and accusing his spouse of harassment. The family of Atul Subhash has stated that after obtaining of the order sheet, they would appeal over the decision to grant in the High Court of Karnataka. Karnataka: Man attempts to rape daughter, wife hacks him to death

Karnataka: A woman in Belagavi district of Karnataka has been arrested for allegedly killing her husband. She claimed it was to protect their daughter from an attempted sexual assault from her husband, the police said here on Thursday, January 2. The incident took place in the village Umarani near Chikkodi in Belagavi district. The deceased, identified as Srimantha Itnale, was reportedly killed by his wife, Savithri, after he allegedly tried to rape their daughter. According to the police, Srimantha, who was known for his abusive behaviour and frequent alcohol consumption, attempted to sexually assault his daughter. Unable to bear the situation, Savithri allegedly intervened and attacked him with a heavy object, leading to his death. To dispose of the evidence, she dismembered the body and discarded it in nearby farmland.
