Parameshwara said on Tuesday that the police department has installed 7,500 CCTV cameras across Bengaluru city to monitor the New Year celebrations and to ensure safety. Speaking to the media here, Parameshwara stated, “I would like to convey New Year wishes to the people of the state. Let the new year bring prosperity and happiness to all. We have initiated all preventive measures from the Home department.” “Our main objective is to ensure no untoward incidents take place on the occasion. Bengaluru: A Bangladeshi man has been sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment by an NIA court here for radicalising Muslim youths and raising funds for terror activities. Jahidul Islam alias Kausar has also been fined Rs 57,000 in the cases connected with offences of dacoity, conspiracy and raising funds, as well as procurement of ammunition, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) said in a statement on Monday. With this, a total of 11 accused have been convicted in these cases, said the statement. Bengaluru: In the wake of numerous complaints, Bengaluru police commissioner B Dayananda on Tuesday urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to cyber fraudsters who extort money by impersonating government officials and claiming to enforce a “digital arrest”. He said the police have been receiving several complaints about individuals being intimidated by the concept of digital arrest, resulting in substantial financial losses. Citing a recent case where a 39-year-old software engineer lost Rs 11.8 crore to this scam, the Commissioner clarified, “We want to reiterate, as we have done multiple times through our social media channels, that there is no concept of digital arrest in our legal statutes or Constitution. Bengaluru: An incident of a software professional losing Rs 11 crore after falling victim to digital arrest has been reported from Bengaluru on Monday, the police said. According to the police, the cyber fraudsters disguised themselves as police officials from the Mumbai Crime Branch and committed the crime through digital arrest. The victim is identified as 39-year-old Vijaykumar, who working with a reputed IT company in Bengaluru. The case has been registered in this regard with the North East Cybercrime, Economic Offences, Narcotics (CEN) police station in Bengaluru. In a horrific incident that occurred in Bengaluru on Saturday, December 21, six members of a family were killed when a container truck toppled over from the opposite lane completely crushing their car. The accident took place at 11 am on the national highway near Nelamangala. The incident was captured on CCTV. Bengaluru: Nikita Singhania, her mother and brother, who were arrested in connection with the death of her 34-year-old husband Atul Subhash, have moved a local court here seeking bail in the abetment of suicide case registered against them, police said on Friday. Subhash, a techie, died by suicide on December 9 following alleged harassment by his wife and her family. Nikita was arrested from Gurugram, Haryana, while her mother Nisha Singhania and brother Anurag Singhania were picked up from Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on December 14 for allegedly abetting Subhash’s suicide, the police added.
