Karnataka: NIA arrests key terror suspect in Hizb-ut-Tahrir case

Bengaluru: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a key terror suspect from the KempeGowda International Airport in Bengaluru in Hizb-ut-Tahrir on Saturday. The suspected terrorist is identified as Aziz Ahamad aka Aziz Ahmed aka Jaleel Aziz from Tamil Nadu, is a key accused in the Tamil Nadu Hizb-ut-Tahrir case involving attempts to radicalise youth and establish the Islamic caliphate in India. Shivakumar on Friday said that Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has given an appointment for a meeting with Congress leaders on Saturday. “We are meeting him at the Raj Bhavan,” Shivakumar, who is also the state Congress unit chief, told reporters here. “I met the Governor the day before yesterday during an engagement ceremony. The Governor asked me when we would be meeting him. Bengaluru : The Karnataka High Court single bench on Friday adjourned to September 5 the hearing on the quash petition of former Chief Minister and BJP central parliamentary committee member B.S. Yediyurappa in connection with the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) case. The bench passed the order following the request by the senior public prosecutor Ashok Naik representing the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) seeking time to submit documents in the case. The bench has also continued the interim order directing the police not to initiate action against Yediyurappa. C.V. MUDA: HC adjourns Siddaramaiah’s plea against Karnataka Guv over nod to launch probe

Bengaluru : The Karnataka High Court on Thursday adjourned the hearing of the writ petition filed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah challenging Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s decision to give nod to launch a probe against the veteran Congress leader in connection with irregularities in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land scam case, to August 31. Justice M. Nagaprasanna passed the order after hearing arguments by senior counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who appeared on behalf of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Singhvi argued that the Governor did not follow the principles of natural justice when granting consent for prosecution against CM Siddaramaiah. He also mentioned that the Governor did not consider the advice given by the Cabinet in this matter. Karnataka HC grants relief to Dy CM Shivakumar in DA case

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday, August 29, held as “non-maintainable” a petition filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) challenging the Congress government’s decision to withdraw consent to it for investigating a disproportionate assets (DA) case against deputy chief minister D K Shivakumar. A division bench, comprising Justices K Somashekar and Umesh M Adiga, also dismissed the plea challenging the state government’s December 26, 2023, order referring the Rs 74.93 crore DA case to the Lokayukta for investigation. In a 67-page judgment, the High Court stated that the issues raised in the petition should be addressed by the Supreme Court. The bench had reserved its judgment on the matter for August 12. The CBI had earlier alleged that Shivakumar amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income between 2013 and 2018. Hyderabad: A jilted lover allegedly attacked and killed a 26-year-old woman from West Bengal, after she started avoiding him and later attempted to end his life, police said on Thursday, August 29. The victim was stabbed multiple times by the accused, police said, describing the gruesome attack. The accused from Bidar district in Karnataka went to the woman’s room on Wednesday night and attacked her with a knife. Bengaluru: Jailed Kannada superstar Darshan, an accused in the kidnapping and murder case of a fan, was taken out of Bengaluru Central Prison in the early hours of Thursday, sources confirmed, adding that he was being transferred to Ballari Jail. This comes after the emergence of photos and videos showing Darshan receiving preferential treatment in prison. The police took him out in a Bolero vehicle, departing from Bengaluru Central Prison at 4.30 a.m. Sources said that the prison authorities have covered the vehicle’s windows with curtains to block the media and public from viewing Darshan. Bengaluru : Facing flak over the video showing preferential treatment to actor Darshan in prison, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday directed authorities to transfer the accused actor and his associates to different jails. Darshan is lodged in Bengaluru Central Prison with 13 accused persons in the case of kidnapping and murder. The 13 include his partner, the main accused Pavithra Gowda. Another four accused are lodged in Tumakuru district prison. The official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) stated that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has considered the case of giving luxury treatment to Darshan in the Bengaluru Central Prison seriously. He has directed the authorities to suspend the responsible officers immediately. CM Siddaramaiah has also given directions to shift Darshan and his associates to different jails across the state. Bengaluru: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Criminal Investigation Department has filed a charge sheet against former MP Prajwal Revanna for rape and his father and MLA H D Revanna for sexual harassment. The SIT, which is probing four cases against Prajwal, said the over 2,000-page charge sheet comprises the statements of about 150 witnesses. The charge sheet, submitted in a special court for public representatives, pertains to one of the cases involving alleged sexual assault on a domestic help of the family. The charge sheet contains spot inspection, biological, physical, scientific, mobile, digital and other relevant evidences which were gathered. Further, expert opinion was taken before filing the charge sheet, the SIT said. Foxconn infuses Rs 1,200 crore in Karnataka unit

New Delhi: Electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn has infused about Rs 1,200 crore — approximately USD 144 million — into its Karnataka-based Foxconn Hon Hai Technology India Mega Development Pvt Ltd, the company said in a recent regulatory filing. The iPhone contract manufacturer’s Singapore-based arm Foxconn Singapore Pte bought over 120.35 crore stocks of Foxconn Hon Hai Technology India Mega Development Pvt Ltd at Rs 10 per share on August 21. The Karnataka government in a statement last week said Foxconn is planning to invest Rs 25,000 crore to establish a massive manufacturing plant near Dodda Ballapur that will create 40,000 jobs. “The unit in Karnataka will soon become the second-largest Foxconn plant after China’s unit.
