Karnataka govt to release Rs 2,000 as relief to drought-hit farmers

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Government announced on Thursday that it would release crop relief of Rs 2,000 in the first instalment for eligible farmers suffering from drought. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made this announcement at an emergency press conference. He stated that it is an emergency action by the state because the central government has not yet held a preliminary meeting to compensate the farmers of the state who are facing a severe drought. “There is no response to the letters written to the Centre. Three ministers from the state visited Delhi, but did not get a positive response from the Centre,” Siddaramaiah stated. “Permission was sought to provide 150 man-days’ employment under the Employment Guarantee Scheme. The Centre has not yet given permission. We have declared 223 taluks of the state as drought-prone in three phases. Crop loss is in 48.19 lakh hectares,” he stated. Siddaramaiah added, “We have written to the Centre to provide financial assistance of Rs. 18171.

A one-and-a-half year old child with head injuries who was rushed from Hassan to NIMHANS in Bengaluru has died. The parents have accused the premier hospital of delay in treatment. The boy’s parents have alleged that they were made to wait for over one hour at National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (NIMHANS) to admit him. The incident took place on Wednesday, and the hospital in its statement issued on Thursday said they had explained to the patient’s family that the prognosis was ”poor”, based on clinical and radiological findings, and that the patient is unlikely to improve with treatment. Bengaluru: A 25-year-old BPO staffer was arrested on charges of storing 13,000 obscene photos of women and morphing them with the faces of his female colleagues, said police on Thursday, adding that he has confessed that he enjoyed doing this. The accused BPO staffer, identified as Aditya Santhosh, was arrested by the Bengaluru Cyber Crime police. The accused worked as a customer service agent for the past five months in the present company. The police are now investigating whether the accused had made these photos viral on social media. Karnataka HC allows Deputy CM to withdraw appeal in DA case

Bengaluru:  The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday allowed Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar to withdraw the appeal filed by him challenging a single judge’s order refusing to quash a government sanction to the CBI to prosecute him in a disproportionate assets (DA) case. The previous BJP government had granted sanction to the CBI to prosecute Shivakumar, also State Congress president, following which an FIR was lodged against him and an investigation undertaken on alleged charges of disproportionate assets. Bengaluru: US chipmaker AMD on Tuesday inaugurated its largest global design centre in Bengaluru, expanding its research, development, and engineering operations in India. The state-of-the-art campus plans to host approximately 3,000 AMD engineers in the coming years, and is focused on the design and development of semiconductor technology, including 3D stacking, artificial intelligence and machine learning, the company said in a press release. The order, which is set to take effect on December 1, provides a one-year grace period until November 30, 2024, for the comprehensive implementation of these safety measures. The decision to mandatorily install emergency panic buttons and VLT devices was to create and ensure a secure environment for commuters. Bengaluru: With the Election Commission issuing notice to the Karnataka government for advertisements of welfare schemes in several newspapers in poll-bound Telangana, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that the advertisements do not ask for votes and mention the welfare measures. He said the Election Commission notice is not as per the law. “Politically, we have not asked for votes. Whatever our government has done in our state, there are a lot of Telugu-speaking people here also, a lot of other language speaking people also live here, so we have given advertisements what we have done in our government. We’ve not asked for votes. We only gave advertisements on the works done by our government here,” Shivakumar told ANI. A family of five, the youngest being eight years old, was found dead at their residence in Karnataka’s Tumkuru district on Sunday, November 26. A suicide note was also found. Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Police have arrested a doctor and his lab technician who have allegedly performed around 900 illegal abortions in the last three years, officials said on Monday. Dr Chandan Ballal and his lab technician Nisar allegedly charged around Rs 30,000 for each abortion which they carried out at a hospital in the district headquarters town of Mysuru. Both of them were taken into custody last week, they said. The hospital’s manager Meena and receptionist Rizma Khan were arrested earlier this month, police said. Bengaluru: The Karnataka government on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with automobile major Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), an Indian subsidiary of Japan’s Toyota Motor Corporation for further expansion of its car manufacturing facility at Bidadi in Karnataka. As per the MoU, TKM will make an additional investment of Rs 3,300 crore to set up its third manufacturing facility with a capacity of 1 lakh units at Bidadi, about 35 km from Bengaluru, potentially generating employment for up to 2,000 individuals.
