Bengaluru: ISRO said on Saturday the Aditya-L1 spacecraft has travelled beyond a distance of 9.2 lakh km from Earth, successfully escaping the sphere of Earth’s influence. Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday said a review petition has been filed before the Cauvery Water Management Board regarding the Cauvery water release order. The state government said in its review petition that it cannot release water, the Chief Minister’s office said in a statement. Dell considering fresh investment in Bengaluru, says state government

Patil, in Austin, on Friday, as per the state Large and Medium Industries Ministry. Bengaluru cops bust Rs 854 cr cyber investment fraud, 6 arrested

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Police have busted a Rs 854 crore cyber fraud scam and arrested six people who allegedly cheated thousands of victims across India on the pretext of an investment scheme, officials said on Saturday. The accused — Manoj, Panindra, Chakradhar, Shrinivas, Somashekar and Vashanth — are all residents of Bengaluru, they said. The three other accused, alleged to be the masterminds behind the fraud have been identified, police said, adding efforts are being made to apprehend them. Out of the total cheated amount, Rs five crore had been frozen, police said, adding that in Bengaluru alone, the victims were cheated of Rs 49 lakh. The accused gang lured the victims through Whatsapp and Telegram. Initially, they were asked to invest smaller amounts ranging from Rs 1,000 to 10,000 on the pretext that they would earn Rs 1,000 to 5,000 per day as a profit, a senior police officer said. Bengaluru: Shivaji Rao Jadhav, a Hindu activist from Karnataka’s Davanagere district, has been arrested for sending threat letters to more than 15 progressive Kannada authors and thinkers, police said on Saturday. Jadhav was arrested in the district by sleuths of the City Central Crime Branch (CCB). The accused had been writing the threat letters for the past two years, leading to the targeted authors meeting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on multiple occasions while demanding swift action. In the letters, Jadhav threatened the victims, including K. Veerabhadrappa, B.L. Venu, Banjagere Jayaprakash, B.T. Lalita Naik, Vasundhara Bhupathi, for going against Hindutva, saying that they should count their last days. Karnataka govt promulgates ordinance to impose 28% tax on online gaming

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government on Friday promulgated an ordinance to amend the Karnataka Goods and Services Tax Act to facilitate the imposition of 28 per cent GST on online gaming. The additional tax will also be imposed on racecourses, and casinos following the consent of Governor Thawarchand Gehlot. Bengaluru: The Karnataka bandh called to oppose the release of water to Tamil Nadu on Friday has been successful with people in most parts of the state extending their support to the bandh call. Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, on Friday, said that the Karnataka bandh is totally peaceful with no untoward incident reported. Speaking to reporters, Shivakumar explained that the people were extremely cooperative. “We have requested not to give a call for bandh. However, Karnataka is safe,” he stated. Reacting to a question on a meeting to be held by the Cauvery Management Board sooner, Shivakumar stated that a team had been sent to represent the state and convey that it is not possible to release water. A meeting will be held with senior former advocates and Karnataka judges to discuss various issues including the distress formula. Bengaluru: A woman employed with an MNC in Bengaluru has lodged a complaint against her live-in partner for harassment, police said on Thursday. The complaint was lodged with the Girinagar police station and a probe is currently underway. The accused has been identified as Rafeeq Badshah. According to the police, the woman has alleged that the accused pretended to be a Hindu man on Facebook and said his name was ‘Guruprasad’. He befriended her and they soon developed a relationship and moved in together. The woman found out about his identity later and also discovered that he was an auto driver, the police said. But she continued to be in the relationship. However, the accused started harassing her and unable to bear it any longer, she moved back to her parents’ place. The woman has also urged for legal action against the accused, the police added. Chamarajanagar: Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said his government will challenge the order of the Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee (CWRC) to release water to Tamil Nadu, at the Supreme Court. Members of the Karnataka-based Hindutva organisation Sri Ram Sene were arrested by the police for setting ablaze a vehicle allegedly transporting beef and forcing the drivers to place cow heads over them. The drivers were also coerced to chant Jai Shri Ram slogans. The incident occurred in the wee hours of Sunday, September 24, near Gauribidanur in Chikkaballapur district. Police arrested 16 people, including seven who were transporting beef illegally. According to a police statement, five vehicles were travelling from Andhra Pradesh’s Hindupur to Bengaluru when they were seized by right-wing workers. Upon discovering ‘beef’, they assaulted the drivers and set one of their vehicles on fire. Soon after a mob started swelling. Police rushed to the spot to control the situation.
