Toddler raped, killed in Bengaluru; accused arrested

Bengaluru: A 3.5-year-old toddler was raped and killed in Bengaluru, police sources said on Wednesday, adding that the accused has been arrested. According to the sources, the 26-year-old accused and the girl child’s mother were in a relationship for a year and the latter was living with him after she left her husband. Preliminary investigations revealed that he committed the crime under the influence of marijuana. Bengaluru : A day after accusing Congress state president D K Shivakumar of being involved in a conspiracy behind the sex scandal that led to his resignation as minister in 2021, BJP leader Ramesh Jarkiholi on Tuesday held a lengthy discussion with Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, sources said. Jarkiholi had on Monday demanded that the sex scandal case should be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation as a “big racket” is involved in which politicians and bureaucrats are honey trapped and blackmailed. HC gives Bengaluru Metro two weeks to respond on pillar collapse accident

Bengaluru : The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday ordered issuing of notices to Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) and others in a public interest litigation taken on its own over the death of two persons due to the collapse of an under-construction metro pillar here. The BMRCL was given two weeks’ time to respond to the court. The state government, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the BMRCL chief engineer and Nagarjuna Construction Company Limited are the other respondents in the case. Bengaluru: The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday warned that it would be forced to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the Chief Secretary if the State fails to implement its order of providing land for graveyards in all villages and towns within two weeks. A Division Bench of the court is hearing a civil contempt petition filed by one Mohammed Iqbal who has alleged that the State has failed to follow an earlier order of the HC in 2019 that had directed it to provide land for graveyards in all villages within six weeks. In September 2022, the State informed the HC in a compliance report that it had handed over 23,815 burial grounds to local authorities and the process of handing over 3,765 burial grounds was still pending. IDBI bank manager held for swindling money from customers’ accounts

Bengaluru: Karnataka police have arrested a relationship manager of IDBI bank in Bengaluru in connection with transferring Rs 4.92 crore illegally to various accounts, police said on Monday. According to police, 34-year-old Sajila, a relationship manager attached to IDBI bank, Mission Road branch in Bengaluru is the arrested person. The police have recovered Rs 23 lakh worth LIC bond and the computer used to commit the crime. The accused has been taken into police custody for further investigation. Sajila, from Tamil Nadu, worked between June 2022 and December in the Mission Road Branch during which she had illegally transferred money to various bank accounts from customers’ accounts. Bengaluru: The Bengaluru civic body has issued a notice prohibiting the slaughtering and sale of meat within the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits on January 30 in view of Sarvodaya Day (Martys’ Day). “On the occasion of “Sarvodaya Day” on Monday: 30-01-2023, the slaughtering of animals and sale of meat in shops under the jurisdiction of Bangalore Municipal Corporation is completely prohibited,” the notice read. Meanwhile, BBMP issued a notice to restaurants and proprietors of meat stalls near the Yelahanka Air Force Station to stop the sale of meat and non-vegetarian dishes from January 30 to February 20. 7 arrested in Bengaluru for smuggling endangered animals

Bengaluru: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested seven passengers, including a woman, for allegedly smuggling 18 endangered animals in their baggage at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru a few days ago. Initially, three people were arrested. Their interrogation resulted in the arrest of four more people, the DRI said in a statement on Friday. The recovered animals include extremely rare and threatened species like the Yellow and Green Anaconda, Yellow Headed Amazon Parrot, Nile Monitor, Red Foot Tortoise, Iguanas, Ball Pythons, Alligator Gar, Yaki Monkey, Veiled Chameleon, Racoon Dog, White Headed Piones, etc. which were handed over to Bannerghatta Biological Park, according to the DRI. New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on Go First, founded as Go Air, for violation of rules. On January 9, a Go Air flight on the Bengaluru-Delhi route took off leaving behind 55 passengers in the passenger coach at the Bengaluru airport. The aviation regulator had issued a show-cause notice to the Accountable Manager of Go First, asking as to why enforcement action should not be taken against them for dereliction of their regulatory obligations. Bengaluru: A local court in Karnataka on Friday awarded life imprisonment to a man for killing his wife and cutting her body into pieces. Rajesh, the accused from Doddaballapur of Bengaluru Rural district, was married to Lakshmi. Though the couple led a harmonious life initially, later he suspected his wife’s fidelity and killed her in 2018. After murdering Lakshmi, he cut her body into pieces and buried them near a lake. Bengaluru: Criminal Santro Ravi, who is in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Karnataka, has been hospitalised for health complications after overdosing on pills. K.S. Manjunath, aka Santro Ravi, who is alleged to have close links with top leaders of the ruling BJP in the state, suffered from blood pressure, diabetes and other complications.
