Bangalore: 4 arrested for extorting widows, divorcees over nude videos

Bengaluru:  Four members of a gang have been arrested in Bengaluru in connection with assaulting, blackmailing and extorting widows and divorced women over nude videos, police said on Monday. According to the police, the accused, including a woman, targeted the victims in the pretext of helping them out with financial assistance and jobs. The arrested persons were identified as Ravi, a resident of Chikkagollarahatti, his wife Mangala, Srinivas and Shivakumar from Kunigal taluk of Tumakuru district. Srinivas and Shivakumar are brothers and worked in a gas agency. The accused identified widows, divorced women and also those who were living separately from their partners. Mangala would approach them and after collecting their details offered them assistance, spoke to them over the phone sympathising with them and gained trust. Over 325 buses Booked for Siddaramothsava birthday event in Karnataka

Bengaluru : More than 325 buses of the Northwest Karnataka Road Transport Corporation have been booked for the celebration of 75th birth anniversary program of Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah in Davangere, till Sunday. Hundreds of more buses are expected to be booked for the anniversary program on August 3, 2022. Buses were booked from all across the state, as many as 50 buses were booked in the Bagalkote district, 90 buses have been booked in Haveri, 85 in Gadug and 90 in the Dharwad district. This is expected to fetch an income of approximately Rs. 39 lakh to the organization. Suspected case of monkeypox reported in Karnataka

Bengaluru : An Ethiopian national with symptoms of monkeypox has been quarantined at a private hospital here, the Karnataka health department said. His samples have been sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune for confirmation, the health officials said on Saturday. The African national has been isolated at the hospital where he got admitted for treatment of multiple health issues, including renal problem. The 55-year-old Ethiopian with kidney related ailment and other health complications had come in the first week of July and only recently, he showed signs of monkeypox with rashes in his body, a health department official told PTI. Bangalore: IISc, Indian Navy to collaborate on aviation research

Bengalore:  The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the Indian Navy have signed an MoU to collaborate on aviation research and development and to ramp up self-reliance efforts for the Indian Navy, in line with the goals of Atmanirbhar Bharat, IISc officials stated Saturday. The MoU provides a formal basis for the Indian Navy to interact with relevant faculty members at IISc and will promote joint research programmes in areas of mutual interest. Bengaluru:  Congress workers in Karnataka were on Saturday detained for attempting to lay siege to BJP MP Tejaswi Surya’s residence over his alleged “stone pelting” remark. An audio in which Tejaswi could be purportedly heard saying BJP workers could have pelted stones to protest the murder of BJP activist Praveen Kumar Nettare if Congress had been in power, went viral. Bengaluru : A Special PMLA Court in Bengaluru awarded a three-year jail term to J V Ramaiah, RTO, Nagamangala Mandya district, Karnataka and his wife M Lalitha for accumulating disproportionate assets of Rs. 1,24,23,929, which were almost 415.3% of their known sources of income. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on both of them. 2,130 COVID-19 cases, 4 deaths in Karnataka

Bengaluru : Karnataka on Friday clocked 2,130 fresh COVID-19 cases and four fatalities, taking the cumulative number of infections and deaths to 40,03,785 and 40,101 respectively, the Health Department said. Also, the day saw 1,395 people being discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 39,53,776, according to a bulletin. Active cases stood at 9,866, the bulletin said. Dakshina Kannada: A gang of miscreants allegedly hacked a Muslim youth to death in Karnataka’s Mangaluru district, hours after the state Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s visited the family of slain BJP activist Praveen Kumar Nettaru, police said. The deceased Muslim youth has been identified as Mohammed Fazil, a resident of Mangalpete near Surathkal, located on the outskirts of Mangaluru. The incident took place on Thursday evening. Bengaluru:  Police in Karnataka have arrested a suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist and detained four other persons in a late night operation in Bengaluru, sources said on Monday. According to the sources, sleuths of the Central Crime Branch’s (CCB) Special Wing in coordination with the Internal Security Division (ISD) and Intelligence Wing raided a residence following a tip-off over the presence of the suspected terrorist identified as Akthar Hussain Lashkar from Assam. The teams comprised more than 30 personnel. The suspected terrorist worked as a food delivery boy and resided with others in the BTP locality near Tilaknagar. The police personnel were posted at the Shivajinagar Police Station in Bengaluru, he added. According to sources close to the minister, the police personnel were on their way to nab a drug peddler in Chittoor when their car rammed into a road divider. Special train to run between Mangaluru-Bengaluru till Aug 31

Mangaluru:  The railways will operate a tri-weekly special express train between Bengaluru and Mangaluru via Mysuru from July 26 in view of the snapped road connectivity between the two cities due to the landslides in the Ghat section. The train will operate from July 26 to August 31 for three days in a week, a railway release here said. Train No. 06547 will depart from Bengaluru at 8.30 pm and reach Mangaluru Central at 9.05 am the following day. The train will run on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Bengaluru : The Karnataka High Court has directed the state government to appoint an IAS officer as a nodal official to coordinate with various departments and municipal bodies to prepare a dashboard where the public can access and cross-check with all kinds of property details. This order came in a petition where a builder tried to “take advantage of certain lacunae in the manner and methodology of numbering”. A fine of Rs 1 lakh was imposed on Vandana Infra Estates which had filed the petition. Karnataka reports 1,456 new COVID-19 cases

Bengaluru : Karnataka on Saturday reported 1,456 fresh COVID-19 cases taking the tally to 39,94,627, the State Health Department said. There were, however, zero fatalities in the state. The department in its daily COVID bulletin said 1,096 people were discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 39,45,647 till date. Active cases stood at 8,848. Bengaluru urban district alone contributed 1,154 fresh cases. Other districts in Karnataka too reported infections including 37 in Mysuru, 30 in Belagavi, 29 in Dharwad, 22 in Ballari and 18 in Bengaluru Rural. There were zero infections and fatalities in Ramanagar and Yadgir districts of the state. The positivity rate for the day was 4.66 percent, the department said. As many as 31,183 tests were conducted, those included 23,401 RT-PCR tests. The total tests done so far is 6.76 crore. A total of 88,056 people were inoculated, taking the total vaccination done till date to 11.50 crore, the department said. Get the latest update
