Karnataka govt to rehabilitate acid attack victim, police arrest accused’s parents

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government announced on Saturday that it would take entire responsibility of the rehabilitation of a victim of acid attack. The shocking incident took place on Thursday when a 24-year-old woman sustained serious injuries after her stalker allegedly threw acid on her. The police have arrested the parents and brother of the accused Nagesh, who is still absconding. Karnataka Health Minister K. Sudhakar paid a visit to the Siant John’s hospital on Saturady where the victim is being treated. “The entire cost of treatment will be borne by the state government, including the expense of skin transplantation,” he said. The minister also provided Rs 5 lakh compensation personally. “The government will ensure that the accused gets maximum sentence after expeditious trial in a fast-track court. Bengaluru : Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday said that the Union government has agreed to procure additional 3 lakh metric tonnes of Ragi under the Minimum Support Price scheme. The decision would bring a big relief for Ragi farmers, Bommai added. Speaking to media persons after participating in the conference of Chief Ministers and Chief Justices of all the States, Bommai said, “Earlier 2 lakh metric tons of Ragi was procured to ensure a fair price for Ragi growers. Again bowing to demand from the farmers, an additional 1.14 lakh metric tons of Ragi was procured by releasing Rs 485 crore.” “As the state has produced a bumper crop of Ragi, farmers have been demanding further procurement of Ragi. The state government raised the issue with the Union government and succeeded in convincing the Centre to accept the demand. In yet another incident of crimes against women in the country, on April 29 a miscreant entered a mosque in Karnataka and allegedly misbehaved and flashed his private parts at women engaged in prayers. On Saturday, the Mangaluru police arrested and identified the accused as 26-year-old Sujith Shetty, a resident of Karkala Taluk. Bengaluru:  The health department in Bengaluru is on high alert after the city reported more than 100 Covid-19 cases on a daily basis since the last seven days. Bengaluru: Karnataka police have stepped up efforts to arrest the accused who is absconding after carrying out acid attack on a 23-year-old woman near her workplace at Sunkadakatte in Bengaluru. According to Kamakshipalya police, three special teams have been on the job to nab the accused Nagesh. The police say that all his family members have disappeared after the incident. Hubballi : Acknowledging that Karnataka has witnessed a slight rise in the number of Covid cases after April 9, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, however, on Thursday that it would be premature to term it as the ‘fourth wave’ of the pandemic. “The rise in cases is being monitored and precautionary measures are being taken,” he told media persons here, adding that almost the entire state’s eligible population has been vaccinated. “A spike in Covid cases is being reported in Europe and a few other countries especially among those who have not been vaccinated. About 98 per cent of the eligible population has been vaccinated in Karnataka. Attention is being given to administer precautionary vaccine doses in the state,” he said. Jilted lover attacks girl with acid in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: In a shocking development, a jilted lover threw acid on a 23-year-old woman in Bengaluru on Thursday, police said, adding the victim sustained severe burn injuries and was shifted to a private hospital. The incident had taken place near the Muthoot Fincorp office in Sunkadakatte. The police have launched a hunt for the accused Nagesh, who escaped after the attack. Police explained that Nagesh had followed the victim while she was on her way to work. He then waylaid and poured acid on her. Nagesh tried to forced the victim to fall in love with him. When she refused, he developed hatred towards her and planned to carry out the acid attack, the police said. Bengaluru Rural:  Tense situation prevailed at a university campus in Karnataka after a foreign student fell to her death, police said on Thursday, adding that security has been tightened to avoid any untoward acts of violence. The incident took place at 11 p.m. on Wednesday night at the Gitam University located in the Bengaluru Rural district, police sources said. Haseena, a 24-year-old student from Uganda enrolled in the final year of an engineering course, died after falling from the sixth floor of the residential facility. Sudhakar on Tuesday the state will witness a peak after June which will remain till September and October. New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday indicated at soon listing the petitions against the Karnataka High Court judgment, which upheld the ban on hijab in pre-university colleges. As senior advocate Meenakshi Arora mentioned the matter before a bench headed by Chief Justice N.V. Ramana saying that the matter needs urgent hearing, the Chief Justice said: “I will list the matter, wait for two days.” Earlier, the apex court had declined to urgently hear petitions challenging the high court judgment. Bengaluru: J. Manjunath, the Deputy Commissioner of Bengaluru Urban, will begin a probe on the charges of mandatory Bible study in a city school. The investigation is being initiated on Tuesday following the directions by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR). Hindu organisations have raised complaints on the Clarence High School for the imposition and the NCPCR has asked the Deputy Commissioner to submit the report within seven days. The Commission stated that it has been brought to notice that the school has been imposing Christian religious views on children by making them study the Bible. Sri Ram Sena founder Pramod Muthalik on Monday asked the school management to keep the Bible at their homes and churches. “Why is Bible being preached to Hindu students who comprise 90 per cent of the total student population in the school?” he questioned. The school must be seized and students transferred to other schools, he demanded. Hindu Jana Jagruthi Samithi has alleged that the students are made to read the Bible everyday compulsorily.
