Shivamogga: Karnataka police arrested five Bajrang Dal members for attacking a meat vendor who refused to sell non-halal meat. This incident took place in Bhadravathi, Shivamogga District of the state. The assault took place on Thursday when some Bajrang Dal members were campaigning against halal meat. Bengaluru: After calls for ban on halal products in Karnataka grew, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday said that the state government would spell out its stand after studying the issue. In the latest campaign targeting Muslims, Hindu organisations and BJP leaders in the state have begun raising objections to sale of halal meat to Hindus. The development comes in the wake of the recent ban calls made by the right wing groups on Muslim shops and stalls at Hindu religious fairs and temple premises in the coastal regions of Karnataka. Bengaluru : Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai stated on Tuesday that ‘Shaadi Mahals’ which have been established for conducting the marriages of the poor people belonging to the minority communities would be closed. He also clarified that there is no proposal to stop scholarships for students from such communities. Replying in the Legislative Council to a question in this regard by the opposition Congress leader B.K. Hariprasad, Bommai clarified that there was an attempt made earlier to stop scholarships of school children and for higher education. But, nothing will be stopped, he assured. Nagesh has clarified that there is no proposal before the government to take over Madrasas, where minority Muslim students study. “We have not discussed anything with Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in this regard,” he said. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Nagesh, however, said that the required education and skill set is not being imparted to students in madrasas. The education imparted is not suitable for the competitive world. If they (madrasas) come forward, it can be considered, he said. The students studying in madrasas should get the education that is being provided to other children. The curriculum which is taught in the education department is not there in madrasas, Nagesh said. On March 24, Karnataka High Court Justice M. Nagaprasanna dismissed the petition of the accused husband in the case seeking to quash the legal proceedings against him. The judge had pronounced that sexual assault even by the husband is rape. In the order the bench has noted that Section 375 (rape) of the IPC is not progressive but regressive. Bengaluru: Two officers attached to the Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) were arrested, but released the same day by the Karnataka Police in connection with the electric transformer blast case in which a father and daughter riding a scooter were burnt to death in Bengaluru’s Manganahalli on March 23. The arrested persons, identified as Dinesh, an Assistant Engineer and Mahantesh, a junior engineer, were both working for Bescom. The police arrested them on Monday and released them on station bail by the evening. The family of the victims and eyewitnesses have alleged gross negligence on the part of Bescom authorities. Bengaluru:  It is going to be a litmus test for the Bommai-led BJP government in Karnataka as 8.73 lakh students will appear for the crucial SSLC (Class 10) exams from Monday amid the hijab row. The conducting of exams has assumed significance as the state government has said a strict no to hijab after the High Court ruling, and the exams are being conducted in the normal pattern after the 2-year pandemic disruption.
