Man threatens wife he will post her nude photos on social media, FIR registered

Bengaluru: The Karnataka police have filed an FIR against a man who threatened his wife that her nude photos would be posted on social media over property issues in Bengaluru, police said on Monday. Following the complaint of the 25-year-old woman, the Basavanagudi women’s police station registered a complaint against her husband Pragath Purushottam (32), an industrialist from Hanumanthnagar locality of Bengaluru. According to the police, the victim had got married to the accused 7 years ago. At the time of marriage, the victim’s family had gifted half a kilogram of gold jewellery and 15 kgs of silver as dowry. Initially, relations were good between the couple. Later, the accused had started forcing his wife to bring more dowry from her parents. She told the police that her parents had given Rs 40 lakh as dowry to her husband. Steps are being taken to bring back students from Ukraine: CM Bommai

Bengaluru : Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday said that measures are being taken to bring the remaining students stranded in Ukraine back home safely. Speaking to media persons after paying floral tributes to former Chief Minister K.C. Reddy’s statues on his death anniversary on Sunday, Bommai said, the students who were in the western part of Ukraine have arrived in India through Romania. They are being brought to Bengaluru from Mumbai and Delhi. Disaster Management department is taking care of their travel and other needs to reach home. “We are in constant touch with the Union Minister for External Affairs to bring the remaining students back safely,” he said. “Helplines set up by the Union and State governments are in touch with the students and their parents. Bommai speaks to students in Ukraine, assures them of help

Bengaluru : Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday said that he has spoken to students from the state who are stuck in war-torn Ukraine, and assured them of providing all the necessary assistance. “I have spoken to those students. I have assured them of all help and asked them to be courageous,” he said. Many Indians are stuck in various cities of Ukraine. “Everyone is fine, but I have requested the authorities to provide food and shelter. I have already spoken in length with Union Foreign Affairs Minister S. Jaishakar and we have also sent a list to him,” he said. Hijab row: Karnataka HC asks counsel to conclude submissions by Friday

Bengaluru : The Karnataka High Court bench, hearing the petitions filed by students pressing for their right of wearing hijab, has asked all counsel to conclude their submissions by Friday and if the submissions are over, it is likely to reserve the judgment thereafter. Meanwhile, on Thursday, the 10th day of the hearing, the three-judge bench heard the counsels’ argument who vehemently pressed for the right of hijab. A.M. Dar, counsel for the girls who have been denied their right to wear hijab, submitted an elaborate argument quoting verses from Quran and stated that hijab is a life and death question for Muslim girls. He prayed before the bench to come down heavily on the state for passing an order restricting hijab in classrooms. Bengaluru : Karnataka students, especially those studying in Class 10 and Class 12, who are not ready to appear in exams without hijab are likely to miss their annual exams. As per the Karnataka High Court’s interim order, students are not allowed to wear hijab inside the classrooms. The annual examinations for SSLC (Class 10) and second PUC (Class 12) are scheduled to be held in April. The authorities have started issuing hall tickets to the students. However, some protesting students are refusing to collect their hall tickets. Amid the ongoing hijab proceedings in the Karnataka high court, the police in Udupi district filed an FIR under against a reporter for barging into a Muslim girl’s house in the name of a sting operation. The complaint was filed under IPC section 448 against a reporter of Asianet Suvarna News. The complainant, a student by the name Aliya Assadi, stated that the reporter barged in her home and breached her privacy in the name of sting operation. It is worth noting that Assadi is one of the six petitioners in the current high court case on the allowance of hijab in educational institutes. Assadi, along with several other Muslim women were followed, and harassed by members of select media houses since the start of the high court proceedings vis-à-vis the hijab row. COVID-19: 679 new cases in Karnataka, 21 deaths

Bengaluru : Karnataka on Monday reported 679 fresh cases of coronavirus and 21 fatalities, taking the aggregate to 39,37,265 and toll to 39,816. There were 1,932 discharges, pushing the total number of recoveries to 38,86,052, a health bulletin said. Of the new cases, 346 were from Bengaluru Urban that saw 839 people being discharged and 8 virus-related deaths. The total number of active cases across the state is now 11,360. While the positivity rate for the day stood at 1.29 per cent, the case fatality rate (CFR) was 3.09 per cent. Of the 21 deaths, 8 are from Bengaluru Urban; Ballari 4, Dakshina Kannada and Dharwad 2, followed by others. After Bengaluru Urban, Shivamogga recorded the second highest number of cases at 34, followed by Ballari 31, Kodagu 28, Mysuru 26, followed by others. Bengaluru Urban district now has a total of 17,76,173 cases, Mysuru 2,29,134 and Tumakuru 1,59,642. Cumulatively, a total of 6.40 crore samples have been tested, of which 52,505 were on Monday

The police department is on high alert throughout the state after an incident of violence were reported. Fearing large-scale violence, the Shivamogga city has been turned into a police fortress. The Bajrang Dal activist, identified as Harsha, was brutally killed late Sunday night near Ravivarma Street in Bharathi Colony. Bengaluru: With the second year pre-univesity (PU/ Intermediate) practical exams scheduled in several colleges side-by-side with the ongoing Hijab row, officials from the Karnataka education department have claimed that girls have agreed to appear for the exams without their headscarves in two colleges. The deputy director of PU education was quoted by the Times of India as saying, “Students have been convinced to come for practical exams without hijab. In my jurisdiction, two colleges — the Government PU College in Yelahanka and Bapu PU College in Yeshwantpur — faced protests. I went to both colleges on Saturday and convinced the science students,” The students were reportedly given hall tickets on the condition that they would appear for the exams without the hijab.
