Bengaluru: Days ahead of Diwali, the Karnataka government permitted the sale of only green crackers with permission from authorities between November 1 to 10. “As per the directions of Supreme Court order on 23 10 2018, only green crackers should be sold. Therefore, dealers who have taken permission from the authorities for the sale of green crackers, are allowed to sell green crackers from 1-11-2021 to 10-11-2021 at the designated places,” read the state government guidelines issued on Friday. However, the government stated that the shops should be installed in non-residential areas and at open places with permission from authorities. “6 meters distance must be kept between the shops and ventilation from both the sides is a must. A permission letter should be displayed in the shop,” the order further read. On COVID19 protocols, it said, “sanitization, thermal screening, masks and 6 feet distance guidelines should be followed. Bengaluru : Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai bid an affectionate goodbye to Kannada superstar Puneeth Rajkumar early on Sunday morning before the final procession at the Kanteerava Stadium. While paying his last respects, Bommai became emotional. Folding his hands before the mortal remains of Puneeth, he was tearful and bid goodbye and affectionately kissed his forehead. The photos have gone viral on social media. Bommai had camped with the family when Puneeth was shifted to a hospital following cardiac arrest on Friday. Later, he also paid several visits to the Kanteerava Stadium where the mortal remains of Puneeth were kept for final viewing. The final rites were conducted as per the traditions of Ediga community of the Hindu religion. His mortal remains were brought in a procession from Kanteerava Stadium, which began around 5 a.m. and reached Kanteerava studio. Hubli: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Thursday alleged that politicians and officials were involved in a Bitcoin scam in the state and that the investigation agencies are trying to safeguard them. “My point is.. As per my information, many powerful people are involved in it (bitcoin scam) and investigating agencies trying to close this, No one should be safeguarded no one should be saved culprits must be punished, whoever it may be,” Siddaramaiah told ANI. “Now they’re saying they (CM) have referred it to Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Bengaluru : Karnataka High Court has directed the state police not to take any coercive measures against Bhavith Seth and Harsh Jain, the Founders and Directors of Sprota Technologies Private Limited which promotes the ‘Dream 11’ online game app. Bhavith Sheth and Harsh Jain had moved to the High Court seeking quashing of FIR against them in Annapoorneshwarinagar police station in state capital Bengaluru. The single-judge bench headed by Justice Srinivas Harishkumar on Thursday adjourned the matter to November 9 and directed the police not to initiate any legal action against them. Kodagu : The Karnataka health department is on high alert after 32 students of a residential school in Kodagu district which borders Kerala, tested positive for COVID-19. The district use to initially report eight to 10 COVID cases, but the daily count now has increased to about 30. As students of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Galibeedu village near Madikeri, developed cold, cough symptoms since over a week, 270 of them were tested, of which 22 were infected. Another 10 students tested positive in the tests counducted later. All students have been quarantined and the school is sealed. The entire staff of 40 members have also been tested. The health department has asked people not to panic and stated that it is not connected with a third wave. Davanagere : Nine months after the death of a woman, her husband, a doctor by profession, has been arrested on charges of killing her with a high dose of injection under the influence of black magic in Karanataka’s Davanagere district, police said on Sunday. Shilpa, the wife of Dr Channakeshappa (45), a resident of Rameshwara village in Nyamathi taluk, suffered from low blood pressure. He had given an overdose of Dexamethasone injection to her following which Shilpa became too sick and died on the way to hospital. The incident had happened on February 11. The parents of Shilpa had lodged a complaint with the police, alleging foul play. Though, in the initial stages the accused appeared to be innocent, preliminary investigations revealed that Channabasappa, though a rich landlord was a drunkard, visited casinos and gambling centres. Belagavi: Unable to bear the pain of his wife’s death due to black fungus, a man in the Belagavi district of Karnataka, consumed poison along with his four children on Saturday. The incident took place in Boragal village under Hukkeri taluk. The deceased were identified as Gopala Hadimani (46), his children – Sowmya Hadimani (19), Shwetha Hadimani (16), Saakshi Hadimani (11) and Srujan Hadimani (8). According to police, Jaya, wife of Gopala, died due to black fungus on July 6. Not able to bear the pain of her untimely death, Gopala committed suicide along with his children on Saturday. “Further investigation is underway,” Sankeshwara police told IANS. The committee — headed by Prof. Karisiddappa, Vice-Chancellor, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), will comprise of academicians, industry leaders, officials among others. This was decided in the preliminary meeting chaired by C.N.Ashwath Narayan, the Minister for Higher Education, on Friday. The purpose is to focus on providing quality teaching in every district and to meet industry requirements. Wherever the government college exists that will be considered on priority and in districts with no government college, private engineering colleges will be selected, Narayan stated. Bengaluru : The Karnataka government has undertaken a special vaccination drive ‘lasika mela’ on Friday in the state capital to identify those who have not been jabbed and vaccinate them. Special Commissioner (Health), Thrilok Chandra said 86 per cent people have been inoculated with the first vaccine dose in the city and second dose has been administered to 52 per cent citizens. To increase the vaccination drive in the city, block and lane- level vaccination has been taken up. “Whoever has not taken the vaccine will be identified and will be vaccinated through special lasika mela throughout the city on Friday, and it is urged that citizens take complete benefit of this arrangement,” he added. Bengaluru : The Karnataka State Primary School Teachers Association has announced that 1.50 lakh teachers across the state appointed by the state government will wear black badges while teaching students, from Thursday. Shambhulinganagouda Patil, the President of the Association told IANS that teachers are seeking fulfilment of their long pending demands including promotions, implementation of 6th Pay Commission recommendations, transfer policy and others. “The teachers have already boycotted training programmes by education department from October 4. Black badge protest is the first stage. The children will not have any effect as teachers will discharge their duties usually. Teachers will stage black badge protests till October 29,” he added. In the second stage, between October 30 and November 10, the teachers would not submit statistics regarding mid-day meal to the department as protest. After 9 years in jail, Karnataka court acquits father-son duo

Dakshina Kannada:  The third additional district and sessions court in Dakshina Kannada district has acquitted Vittala Malekudia and his father Lingappa Malekudia who were arrested and charged for having ties with Maoist elements nine years ago. The two were acquitted on Thursday. Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) had arrested the father and son on March 3, 2012 on charges of having Maoist connections. During the search of their home, ANF officers had taken a book on freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, a binocular and other 36 items into custody. His write up on boycotting of elections was considered a seditious act. The case was registered at Venur police station. The charge sheet by the ANF mentioned Vittala Malekudia as the sixth accused, and his father Linganna Malekudia as the seventh accused. Vittala Malekudia was studying his first year in Journalism at Mangaluru University at the time of his arrest. He had attended examinations while in custody. Bengaluru  Customs officers at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIAL) in Bengaluru have detained a 42-year-old gold smuggler, who was trying to hide the yellow metal in his mouth, sources in the airport told on Thursday. The accused person is from Chennai and he landed at Bengaluru airport from Dubai on Wednesday evening. He had concealed two pieces of gold weighing 100 grams worth Rs 4.5 lakh. The Air Intelligence Unit in Bengaluru customs intercepted the accused and questioned him. When they found the accused was struggling to talk, they checked his mouth and found gold pieces. The authorities have booked him for evading customs duty. The authorities also found 15 gold pieces weighing more than 1 kilogram worth Rs 49.6 lakh in the private flight that he had travelled. Bengaluru : Karnataka police have cracked the brutal murder case of a 28-year homemaker in Bengaluru’s Yarabnagar locality with the arrest of a minor boy, police sources said on Thursday. According to the police, the 17-year minor boy had an affair with the deceased woman Afreen Khan.  The woman insisted on eloping with the boy leading to frequent arguments between them. Their verbal spat took a violent turn on Wednesday when he went to meet her at home.  Both had assaulted each other and in a fit of rage, the boy attacked the victim with a knife and scissors. After stabbing her multiple times, he tried to torch her body by setting the bed afire. He then locked the door from outside and escaped. Kalaburagi: The District Health Official (DHO) of Kalaburagi S Ganjalkhed said that around 20 villages in his district have achieved 100 per cent vaccination of the eligible population. Further, he also claimed that around 162 villages have achieved 90 per cent vaccination whereas around 340 villages have achieved 80 per cent vaccination of the eligible population. “In around 20 villages of our district, we’ve achieved 100 per cent vaccination of 18 years and above. In 162 villages, we’ve vaccinated more than 90 per cent of the eligible population and in 340 villages we’ve inoculated more than 80 per cent of the eligible population,” said S Ganjalkhed. Bengaluru: Zohra Destitute Home for Girls in Gulbarga, Karnataka has supported many orphans with their higher education by aiding them in medicine, engineering, degree, journalism, and other allied fields. Two destitute girls have secured government seats in MBBS and since then have been employed in rural areas as doctors on behalf of the government. Zohra trust has made education more accessible to orphans for over 40 years. Zohra Home run by the Zohra Women and Children Charitable Welfare Trust was set up by Mohammed Nasir Ali and a group of social workers in 1979 on the Old Jewargi Road in Gulbarga. It is located on half an acre plot of land and can accommodate 250 girl inmates in its 60 room facility. The entire home is looked after by a single warden and four cooks man the kitchen. The trust was set up with an initial contribution of Rs 100 from each of the seven trustees and in the year 1979 it started functioning with eight girls. Currently, the trust houses over 270 girls.
