Karnataka to vaccinate school teachers on priority

Image
Bengaluru : All teaching and non-teaching staff of state-run, aided and private schools across Karnataka would be vaccinated on priority ahead of resuming classes, as the pandemic’s second wave wanes, said Health Minister K. Sudhakar on Thursday. “As schools have to be re-opened sooner and students cannot rely on online classes for long, all teachers and other staff of schools will be vaccinated on priority across the state for the safety of students,” Sudhakar told reporters here. Schools have remained shut since the pandemic broke out in the state in mid-March 2020 to protect students and contain the virus spread. Admitting that online or virtual classes may impact the mental health of students in the long run, Sudhakar said that the state government was consulting health experts, parents and other stakeholders on when schools could be re-opened at least in non-containment zones across the state. “Colleges and universities across the state have been allowed to reopen from July 2

He said that all those families, whose income is less than Rs 8 lakh per annum, will be eligible under this EWS category reservations. Earlier this year, Yediyurappa was under tremendous pressure from his own party leaders who were demanding better quota reservation. BJP High Command sends out subtle ‘go’ message to K’taka CM: Sources

Image
Bengaluru: Even as Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yediyurappa insisted on Saturday morning that all is well, speculation is rife that he is likely to go. According to sources, the BJP high command has sent a subtle but clear message to Yediyurappa, who is presently touring Delhi. Despite Yediyurappa being adamant on his stance to complete his tenure, BJP high command is insisting that he should make way for the new chief minister in the interest of the party, they said. In view of the absence of a mass leader in the party and Yediyurappa’s stronghold on Lingayat votes, the BJP high command is treading cautiously in ensuring the smooth process of change of leadership in Karnataka.  The message that he should be resigning from the post has already been conveyed to Yediyurappa. The party top brass is offering plum posts to his sons — B.Y. Raghavendra, an MP and B.Y. Vijayendra at national and state levels, sources added. New Delhi: Amidst speculations on leadership change doing the rounds, Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday evening to discuss “pending development projects” pertaining to the state. He met PM Modi for a little over 30 minutes. Prior to this, he also attended a virtual meeting led by the PM with Chief Ministers of six states to discuss the prevailing COVID situation. After his meeting with Modi, Yediyurapa sarcastically stated that he was unaware of any leadership changes in Karnataka. “I don’t know anything about leadership change, you have to say. In my discussions with PM Modi, I appealed to him for permission to carry out pending development works in the state,” he told media persons in response to a question. Answering a specific question if the Mekedatu dam project across the Cauvery river was also discussed, Yediyurappa cryptically stated that “all pending issues” pertaining to Karnataka were discussed in detail with the PM. Bengaluru : Amid the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the state, the district authorities have decided to restrict the entry of people to the Nandi Hills located on the outskirts of Bengaluru during weekends.
